I keep getting attacked by gobrin seiges and ambushes and I get raped, I can never get my military trained well enough. Those damn lashers just rip me to shreds....


Is there any creative ways to deal with a gobrin invasion? I don't have any magma the surface though.

Well when possible, I like to capture them alive.

Cage traps just don't always cut it though, so I have a few systems to catch them.

And for the other..... A set of walls, 5/5 with a support at the centre. Above the pillar is a floor 3/3, surrounded by floor grates, with floor ramps going up, (I also have a few slightly modded one's too catch building destroyer's and titans), and pressureplates on the floor connected to the pillar.
Creepycrawly crawls on up, triggers pressureplates, goes for juicy meal/door, floor drops down on them now they're stuck in a pit.

I use this because putting cage traps in the open tends to attract a lot of animals (I embarked on three savage biomes), so I also put this to good use.
In the front of my entrance, after a few loads of bridges and what not, there are an assortment of cages, mostly rhinocerus's and a Badgers, attatched to a lever and a bridge.
Nasties walk in, lever opens, RHINOCERUS STAMPEDE!!
And there's no way out but through the hall of traps.
Hilarious enough?

Walls with fortification+drawbridge+*master wood bolts*+ Dead Gobos, Elves, and Humans galore.

Cage traps, capture live greenskins.  Strip them, pit them, kill them.  Train your soldiers on prisoners, and then upgrade them to live steel and fresh grass.

Easiest? Hall of serrated blade traps. If you have the steel to spare, then with steel, otherwise with green glass. Construct with magma-safe mechanisms and flush with magma regularly to clear out any leftover biological matter.

Favorite? Singular Champion. One dwarf, armed with a full set of armor, weapon and shield (weapon is usually either axe or spear) defends the fortress from all threats. May or may not be supported by no more than 5 marksdwarves.

Best? IMO, a combination of elevated markdwarf roosts, magma landmines, and melee dwarves for cleanup.

1. Well I imagine it's either a floor/wall dropped into lava creating a massive cloud of molten gas, or a pit to drop something into magma, or the reverse, to raise large amounts of magma.

Magma landmines, at least the ones I use, were developed by Frogwarrior, shown off in this thread. Basically, magma is pressurized above ground level within either an artificial structure or a nearby hill, then routed through a network of pipes sitting under hatches which are controlled by nearby pressure plates. Invaders step on the plates, and the hatch opens, spewing magma out on the activator and any other nearby creatures. The best part is that the hatch is only open as long as the invader stays alive on the plate, so it doesn't use a great amount of magma.
