Some flies or whatever lay their eggs inside people. Sounds like a great thing for a swamp region. Deadly  crocs, hippy elves, loads of trees and brain-egging flies... wooo.

I guess things like that could be added if we look at it more realisticly.

Urist McSwampFisher cancels Fish: Maggots eating Brain.

Even more Fun! Although it SHOULD be rare.. a good burial is a must (not just because of Ghosts anymore)

Not only would the whole biting power of a vermin be sued to measure how far it can chew through barrels, but it could also be used to see if it an break through a corpse... Or a coffin...

Oh the !!SCIENTIFIC!! possibilities.

And you'd have to use metal or stone coffins in swamp areas, wood just wouldn't cut it.

Trying to imagine my dorf's having a funeral, only for the coffin to smash open and them to pour forth.

Or a Noble on coffin bearing duty dropping the coffin...

Yet another unfortunate accident.

Though it seems to me like this thread is reaching an apex here, it sounds like a great idea and we have no ideas as to why it couldn't be implemented....

Dwaves could extract substancies from parasites (poison, drugs or even cloth?), but they would also need to feed the parasites...

Back on topic: I think it would be very very very nice if there are some special kind of parasite or plague that is procedurally generated and it's carried by a certain animal.
This would be a temporary or permanent event depending on the type of  parasite or plague that this animal specie brought to the map.

It would have to have an individual way to get rid of them (combat could be just fine), but should be able to induce !FUN! on an apocalyptic level.
Maybe having to control the spread like a syndrome? Or having surgeon dwarves remove them?

I think the method should vary from parasite to parasite, if a parasite has a tick carapace (LOL must hurt a lot) the doctors should remove it using tools and surgery but if it's a leech we should just burn it.
Or we can have a use for the alchemist skill.

The Age of Disease/Plague/[PARASITE NAME]

This was an age when a terrible Disease/Plague/the [PARASITE NAME] spread out into the world.

Could be some random thing. In the end, it might go into Apocalypse and destroy everyone. (Semi-/)Megabeasts should be immune though.
Worship this BC, because he smashed that parasite-infested village.

We worship Kadiz, the Flame of Cleansing. In 125, the dragon Kadiz destroyed the flying leeches and saved our civilisation. (That's a small dragon, yeh, but just an example.)

Also, how do vampire maggots work? Do they drink your blood then use your completely dry body for breeding, or lay eggs which drink your blood later? Or do they only drink some blood, then put eggs in, which then drink more blood?
