Poor performance in adventure mode

Whenever I use adventure mode on my PC, i get very poor results. I tried it on my GF's computer, which is less powerful, with the same game settings, and everything went super-fast. I'm wondering what might cause such behaviour ?

I've generated a new world, and now the problems are gone. What the heck could provoke that in adventure mode ?
