Quantitative fluid dynamics
« on: October 08, 2011, 05:07:01 pm »

This experiment was done in 2 different fortresses which were in 2 different versions. This is the basic design of the experiment, but it differs in different versions:

f floor or bridge
Step 0: Isolate one block of water from other water blocks and sources of water. In the second fortress, this is done by pumping water out of an aquifer, and  I recorded the time it takes for the aquifer to refill.
Step 1: Pump this water to an open space.
Step 2: Record time it takes for water to fall to 3x3 space.
Step 3: Record time it takes for water to spread from 1 block to the nearby 8 blocks.
Step 4: Record the pattern of water depths the water made after spreading.
Step 5: Remove water from 3x3 space.

Time it takes for an aquifer to add 1/7 to a square of water: Depth of water before 1/7 is added to the left, number of ticks to the right.

More details on how I did the experiment and other experiments I might do might be posted in the future.

It's all water flow rates in relation to aquifers, from what I can gather.

Sorry, I can't trust myself to write, so rather than writing the whole thing at once I started with the minimal details and am adding more later.
