im in a savana biome. it's taken 3 years for my 2nd dwarf caravan to come and when it came it was 5x a big. so when the goblins come will there be 5 armys at once

and P.S. would a bone longsword (made by guy in fey mood.) be a great killing weapon

If I remember correctly the size of goblin raid/siege should be appropriate to your wealth and the amount of Ursts you have.
So if you have like 20 guys and not much other stuff done the siege SHOULDN'T be ridiculous. Don't take my word for it though. You never know with those darn goblins.

As for the sword. It's an artifact and therefore should be awesome, and it's a sword so it's not affected by the material as much as say maces or hammers. And even if it's not as great at least your soldier will crap his pants in happiness because of using it :).

and also. which is better blow gun or bow?

Human armies can be quite badass because they usually have mounts of various kind.
I remember that one time I got raided by 40 humans mounted on War bears... that was Fun...

As for blow gun/bow dunno, never had the chance to use either one of them since (unless modded) they are foreign weapons and you can't produce them or the ammo yourself. Crossbow is better.

Bows, more ammo
But both weapons are foregien and you would have to import ammo for both

If you don't feel comfortable giving the artifact sword to a useful dwarf, build it into a weapon trap.
One artifact bone pick and a masterwork crapstone mechanism turned a 5x5 unsmoothed crapstone room assigned to my baron (all 4 required rooms overlapping the entire thing) into a royal everything.

get those z figures higher. build things out of the gold and you should see an increase in wealth.

Easiest way to increase your fort's wealth is by smoothing and engraving stone walls. Produce finished goods out of stone at a craftsdwarf workshop- have bins to hold them in. A team of three stonecrafters should be able to churn out enough goods between caravans to be able to buy the entire thing.

Goblins siege based on wealth and population, though ambushes can occur after the first few months in a fort. I usually have approximately 20% of my population as army unless I desperately need skilled workers- I usually rotate my squads every three months so they have off time from patrols.

Finally, and although it's technically an exploit, a way to make your dwarves insanely strong is to make a 'Danger Room' - four upright spike traps in a 1x4 room each filled with 10 wooden training spears (the lower quality the better), all linked to a lever. Station well armoured dwarves in the room, have someone pull the lever on repeat and watch the stat growth in seconds.

If you've got magma a glassmaker can churn out high value green glass discs quickly too.
Glass, or even better clay bricks are also nice value building materials for boosting worth.
