That exchange between the reporter and the dow jones guy was amusing.

Reporter:  "So these guys are pretty wierd, right?  Tell me you agree."
Dow Jones:  "Yeah, they're kinda wierd, but they also have a point.  They have legitimate complaints."
Reporter:  "Yeah... but they're so wierd... right?!"

Meanwhile in NYC: Zuccotti Park cleaning postponed, but the police may try to enforce new rules, especially anti-camping.  I was not aware that the park is technically privately owned, as land sold off by the city as a corporate plaza now leased back to the city.  There's a metaphor somewhere in there.

I'm wondering if the owners of the park saw that petition, which is currently over 660k signatures.  Damn impressive for less than 24 hours.

Here's a couple celebrity appearances at OWS.

One I'm sure you expected.

Another you probably didn't.  (Vector, you might get a kick out of this one.)

19% of Americans have not had the money to put food on the table at some point in the last year compared to 6% of Chinese.

Corporate cronyism will not stand in this new nation;
I say new because it has finally fallen into my generation's hands after being beaten and abused by our parent's, their parents, and so on and so forth.
The time for action is now. We do not live in a free country. Those who say we do, aren't American. They're traitors to liberty and freedom.
They've turned their backs on the American dream, and sold us to China.

When I get my college degree, I'll most likely be out looking for a job in a very volatile market.
What's the fucking point of getting a degree, getting in debt, when you can't even find a job?
There is no point. This is madness. This is crony capitalism, socialism for the rich.

WE NEED A MIDDLE GROUND. WE CANNOT BE SO DAMN MISREPRESENTED AND POLARIZED.

Corporate welfare, ultimately, is keeping our financial district from crashing and burning. And you know what? It's going down anyway, and we haven't hit the ground yet. The fact of the matter is, without mega corporations backing them, politicians have little chance of winning an election. It's a sad time we live in.

Who's vote matters more I ask? The people, or the 1%? The wealthy, as we all should know, run America. The politicians don't even lead us, they are mere puppets.

If you're still proud to be American, what the fuck is wrong with you son?

I am an American Patriot.
America is very important to me.
I want to save America, not tear it down.
We have come a long way in making America and the world a better place.
And most of the time, we have lead that way.
We are not perfect, and we have faltered, gone backwards a bit.
But fixing that and making way to more freedom and equality is what America is all about.
Damn right I am proud of America and the ideals we strive for.
The fuck is wrong with you?

Meh... I consider myself a person who happened to be born within an imaginary boundary defining a place called America.  I suppose that makes me an America.  I just don't like to call myself that, because it implies that I'm somehow on board with the things that the abstract collective entity America does.  I'll be proud of a group I chose to be a part of that does things that I'm proud of.  I won't be proud to be a member of a group that I didn't choose to be a part of, whose definitions of membership make no sense, whose unity is nearly non-existent, and whose actions I am not proud of.  I really wish more people would think that way.  I don't mean this as an insult to the people that live in America, as I do.  I mean it as an insult to the absurdity that is the concept of national identity.

The fact is, America the way it is now isn't following the core beliefs of the original constitution and Bill of Rights.
The America you're thinking of is one not run by private interest groups, oil companies, and pharmaceutical agencies.
And for the beliefs of freedom, equality, and justice for all, I would gladly give my life for.

Nope, pretty sure it's too far. It's entirely possible to identify with a particular set of the ideals typically associated with America and to decry its current government's failings at the same time, and call that being an American patriot - particularly because the current government, in many ways, opposes those very ideals. A nation isn't its government, after all. The only issue I take with being proud of being American is that I'm not a fan of nationalism - it's got nothing to do with America, in particular.

For that matter, what's with the China hate? C'mon, be better than that.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

China is stealing our jobs, is double crossing us as a supposed ally, much like Pakistan, and is most likely going to start another Cold War with the super powers of the world.
