Uh-oh
« on: September 19, 2011, 05:46:32 pm »

My city have been granted mountainhome for the first time. I am really happy and all, but I have a major problem:

My king is human.

No, no, I have nothing against humans (there may be humans around), don't worry. The only problem is that the game is DWARF fortress, not HUMAN fortress.
So?
So, I can't assign anything to the king; I can't give him the royal bedroom that took me so long to pimp, I can't assign him in the army to fight naked against a wolf, and I can't ask him to go die of thirst in a burrow deep underground.

So I just have a human king here, laying in the mud, and not being especially happy about it. Also, my duchess is not against the idea of becoming queen herself, at worst.

Can you help me with that? or am I screwed with this bug?

Build a wall around him as he sleeps.

It's not a bug; in fact, it's a very well-documented feature. Go look up Cacame.

yeah, I know that my king being human is not a bug. I was just talking about the fact that I can't do anything with him.

Also yeah, if I don't find a better solution I'll try to build a wall around him.

also, instead of showing what job the king is performing, the "tame" word appears.

He really is not welcome.

Tame rather than Friendly? That's odd.

Hey, add [Trainable] to humans in the raw and see if an Animal Trainer will drag him to the Kennel.

...Wait. If he's listed as Tame, that means there's a good chance the game is treating him as an animal. Can you mark him for slaughter? :D

No, you can't. Just wall him in and ignore him if you don't want him. (hell, dwarf kings aren't any better)

the king was eating a plump helmet roast with gluttony, when one of his midget vassals came by.
Before his majesty was able to say anything, the engraver put a collar around his neck, and pulled him with a rope.
Astonished, the monarch asked:

-"felony! where art thou bringing my royal person with such unpleasant manners?"
-"ah' spotted ah good pen down thar, ye gonna like it 'swear."
-"wut"
and so, the engraver attached the human to a tree on a nice grazing spot. Of course, to avoid "problems", the bridge between the mine and the spot have been lifted. "we'll see you in two months", said the dwarf from his side of the river.

morality: don't bring your pet human on vacations with you. The locals will abandon it.

If it's a human king, he's gotta use the royal "We".

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

I know that it's always the solution, but that involved a bit too much fun. I had to find something else...

Isn't that we invented things like Runesmith to mess with Human/Elf Kings? I mean, I remember when Cacame was around. They wanted to sacrifice him to magma, too, but then this cult following was spawned.

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.
