Has anyone killed anything with a catapult? (Dodge traps don't count)

Obviously people have killed things with catapults before. that's kind of a given, seeing how it's literally their only purpose. Besides transporting stone, but that was never intended.

So long as this thread's current, how effective are catapults?

I've only ever used ballista, and only once. The "gatling catapult" on the wikipage caught my eye though, so I thought I'd give siege weapons another chance.

I think I once broke a goblin's leg with a catapult, but thats it.  They might have a good shot at killing Crundles, if you could get the little buggers to stand still.

I used it as a backup for my water trap once; helped me take out enemy giant olms who can swim.

It took a while but I ended up killed around 5 or so olms stuck in my water trap.

All in all, catapults suck and are to only be used for training your future ballista users.

Siege engines suck right now, people use them only for fun right now. I've been using catapults to move stone to my off-shore rig once, that all.

I still love to have 3 gattling catapults in a long halway. especially if the enemy can't get to them

Catapults are specifically useful if a siege decides to camp at the edge of your map (like the humans do).

Over 3 times the range of a crossbow shot. The wiki has some numbers, but I suggest you just set one up and see how far it goes. You need to get a feel for their speed and accuracy anyways.

The first time I was militaryless and surprised with the invader AI's response to their leader getting caged I ended up building a few catapults to dislodge them. Killed a couple, broke lots of limbs and ribs, and they eventually left.

I killed some cats with my catapults.  Then I made the door to my catapult training range not pet passable.

I should add that I once chained a naked goblin up in my catapult range and he survived over a year of non-stop bombardment by a rookie, so if you're going to use catapults for realsies, make sure you have decent operators.

I don't think catapults can kill friendlies, maybe those cats died of natural causes... or ballistae

Not sure about catapults but ballista certainly can.  Your dwarves will gladly charge out into the line of fire... your siege operators won't miss them either.
