No, they use a super-complex nerve system to administer an electric current to their flesh which electrifies the water around them and fries anything nearby, sort of a forcefield of raw, unadulterated !!PAIN!!

its only an advantage if were not the only single specamin of our entire species. :P we need to actualy reproduce at some point so were not running a high risk gamble all the time.
