And babies if possible. My only idea was to lock them in a room outside a retractible bridge, and then getting them below the bridge, all through burrows to which they don't respond quite well enough. I know it would be easy to send dwarven parents to a danger room, but I want to keep the parents.

1) build a danger room
2) assign mothers with babies/children to military. Make sure they are wearing clothes, if not, dress them up in at least a cloak and shoes
3) order mothers to move to the danger room
4) pull lever until pesky children are all impaled

Psh, I man up and deal with children the most challenging way of all...keeping them alive until they turn 12.

you can change your init before you start your fortress

I usually lock them in bed rooms and let they're bodies slowly decompose

Entrance to my fortress is a 3x15 underground tunnel, with 2 chained rabbits (mating pair) in the center of it...


"Snatcher! Protect the children!" Thanks rabbits, you've already made enough bunny-babies to replace you.

I make sure my dwarves are clear, then pull a single lever.

2 1x3 bridges on the 2 ends of the corridor slam up, creating walls, at the same time that a floodgate opens, flooding the room, drowning the goblin and 2 rabbits.

Wait for water to drain out of the strainer in the corner, then pull the lever again. Reclaim goblinite, slap a few more rabbits to the chains, repeat.

if you want to deal with overpopulation, just have an all female military. think of it as a rite of passage for the children. if they manage to survive, they get to join the fort.

I have one child in a fort right now, I'm going to be nice and let him live till he's old enough to join the military. Every dwarf joins the military once either a) The dwarf is age 12, b) The dwarf is not female, or c) The dwarf has useless skills.

I can never seem to get children when I want them.
I need 'em for experimentation, but apparently someone's been tipping 'em off, and they continually avoid my Fortresses.

Mod children to mature quicker. Then you will get a good source of cannon fodder.

This works, trust me, on my very first danger room ever (yes I'm still a noob dorfer) some random baby ended up in there as well (none of my military are mothers) and got impaled

what's the point of getting rid of children? it's not really dwarfy because it makes your game easier. And isn't it splendid when the son of a deceased Axe Lord leads your army into battle proudly wielding his father's axe?
