It's a shame that Thomas is entirely too occupied with his research, excavations, and secret underground magic training (damned roll) to deal with random people at the gates. Whether or not the envoys make it past the gates is entirely up to the guards (and, by extension, filiusenox himself).

Why would he need that? He his here to obtain audience with the owner of the lands, who he still believes is that idiot whose family you slaughtered. And you are aware that system is nonsensical?

How is putting a bit of finely ground iron dust into the mix when your making the paper then using lemon( or ammonia) juice to write Northlandic Runes on it that are easily revealed when you hold it up to a light?
Runes which are symbols that show the level of security and respect that this person should be treated with and if they should be let into the gate.
How is that nonsensical? It makes it hard to copy.
