dwarfs and other races should use goblets.
« on: August 02, 2011, 01:05:22 pm »

it's ridiculous to imagine a dwarf carring a barrel of the same size as the dwarf put it on a table, jump on the top of the barrel and suck the booze  and then put the barrel back on the stockpile don't you agree?

Actually that sounds about right for a dwarf, but I agree goblets/mugs should probably be used, although I think that's already planned to go in with taverns(Not completely sure of course).

Dwarfs don't even use tables for drinking now.

Why is that ridiculous? Have you no shame? There's of course a tap on the barrel, which the dwarf lies under while refreshing himself.

Agreeing with this; but rather than cups being necessary to the point where Dwarfs without goblets die of thirst, maybe make it a "preferred" thingy, like eating with/without a table and chair?

Urist McDwarf has been unhappy lately.  He was forced to suck booze directly from the tap lately.

Urist McOtherDwarf has been content lately.  He had a fine drink from a well-crafted mug recently.  He recieved a World's Greatest Dwarf mug lately.

The question is why would a dwarf be unhappy at drinking booze directly from the tap? Getting happy thoughts from good mugs is fine but there shouldn't be an unhappy thought for not having a mug, like eating prepared food instead of raw plump helmets.

Maybe mugs could be used as a solution for dwarves hogging the barrel and preventing everyone else from drinking until they're done. I've heard that's a problem for some people.

also, maybe assign flasks to more than just military dwarves, so they can work and drink(and eat, with a lunchbox)at the same time or at least not have to go back to the stockpile every time theyre thirsty

Dwarves don't drink with their mouths, a dwarf will remove the lid of a booze barrel and lean over it, absorbing the drink via the beard.

How would you handle the details?  Would dwarves have personal goblets that they carried around with them?  Would a drink task make them fetch a goblet, then go to a barrel, then drink (making the task take longer from the extra hauling)?

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

i'd suggest the dining hall zone working in a similar way to the hospital: after the zone is declared and furniture is constructed in it, dwarves would store the necessary tools and drinks in cabinets, chests or stockpiles inside the zone. When a dwarf wants a drink, he would go fetch a mug, fill it, have his drink at a table or a bar and be happy.
If there are no mugs in this zone, well, he'll drink in the old-fashioned way

but you will be able to select lots of option like: constant upgrade, forbid and lots of others.
we can have even a new noble who organize the dishes and goblets on the tables making dwarfs happy.

IF dishes, forks, knifes, spoons  and a use for goblets are implemented dwarf would receive a happy thought depending on the "butler" skill like these: "he dinned in a clean table lately" "he enjoyed a meal in a wonderful table" and keeps going.

That's what they did with cutlery in the middle ages.
