I'm going with the original, since it makes very little difference, technically a 2 year gap for 2000 and 2001 (gc released in the fall 2001).

EDIT: I want to specify, when you say "side-scroller" you include games that don't necessarily scroll, right?

Ya, I figured what they meant was a side view 2d game, as compared to isometric or above view, or first, or third person 3d etc. etc.
