The Legend of Ungrashzon
« on: July 13, 2011, 06:36:56 am »

Hallo everyone,

I'm new here and I made a film for you and for Dwarf Fortress.
But at first I like to tell something about me and the film:

I come from Germany and I'am absolving a training as a 3D-/Game-Designer in Berlin. As part of my training, I made an animation film about Dwarf Fortress and I think... I done it very well.
I already uploaded my film on Youtube. The problem comes now: I got 5 voice-actors for the film, but the dubbing is german. I added english subtitles but I would be happy, when somebody is able to give the film english voices. I can try to make a english dubbing at my scool, but I would prefer some native speeker.
I just hope my subtitles are okay now. A friend wants to read the subtitles and correct mistakes I possibly made. I hope my english is better than the google translator. ^^

Okay: Here is the link to the film:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1kBedai-rk

For the english dubbing: If anyone like to make a english version I can try to give you the film material, the translation and the original german text. I would improve and change the credits for the english version.

OK. I hope you enjoy the movie and I'm looking forward for feedback and a possibility for a english version ^^
I think we will write and have a nice day.

Oh man. I have only the faintest of idea what's going on but god damn that was amusing.
Probably will be better with subtitles though. At least the jokes are universal enough to grasp on and get.
But yeah, the moment I saw the artstyle on this thing I knew it'd be good.

I was surprised about the lack of goblin ambush though.

WOW! That's brilliant! Awesome! It made me giggle at every scene.

I think german version with english subs is alright. For me german speech sounds more dwarfy than english one. Waiting for another episode!

I'd like English subtitles at some point so that I know what the heck is going on (I only caught maybe four or five words in the whole movie), but overall good.

This. This is friggen fantastic.

The bit about aborted cats was weird, though.

Very well done. I really would like to see English subtitles, but the translation on youtube worked pretty well actually. I feel I got most of the jokes.

You deserve a !!medal!!

Good morning,

I'm happy to read, that you like the film. I worked 5 to 6 weeks on this project and I'm very happy to get good feedback.

Maybe... Today I can upload a corrected version of the subtitles and then the time will tell more about the movie.
(Bad subtitles = losing is fun?) ^^

@peregarrett:
A second episode: After six weeks of box graphics I like to make some... smoother 3D-Stuff. When I like to see blocks I would eventually make a new Dwarf Fortress Film.

@dermonster:
The aboirted cat is really strange. I just think that a angry dwarf may interpret a "cat in fetal position" as... this.

@GreatWyrmGold:
What do you mean with "translation on youtube"?

OK. The films seems to make a good start. We write us and have a nice day.

That's sad.
But anyway I suggest this movie to Hall Of Legends.

Today, I thought about possible stories. Maybe... the journey to Ungrashzon or the foundation of a new fortress (I'm imaging how the leader shout: "STRIKE THE EARTH!" and the dwarfes stay around, doing nothing.)
Dwarf Fortress have so much funny stuff to make film about. Some day I would make another Dwarf Fortress film, cause it's just funny.

Utterly beautiful.

Isn't it wonderful how DF stories pretty much write themselves?  There is that sense of wonder and excitement that's slowly replaced by a feeling of inexorable doom.
