Superb fighters
« on: June 26, 2011, 09:13:04 am »

I just lost my demigod adventurer (Legendary swordsman, Legendary fighterx2, Dodger, Shield user and Armor Wearer) to a human lasher. Thing is, I could not hit him with my sword once, and he always hit me with his whip, apparently bypassing my monstruous armor (full iron, maximum cloaks and hoods, chainmail).
I checked him in Legends later on, and I was his only kill. What gives?

Piles of unluck.

Lashers are pretty dangerous, due to the velocity multiplier they got going on. Since the tip goes super-sonic, the game treats the entire metal mass of the whip as going super-sonic.

Speaking of Unluck, when the enemies use whips they destroy me but when I try to use whips I die quickly. Is this just Unluck or is there some form of secret technique I know not about.

Before u engage a lasher (and you didn't wield a shitload of shields to train shield using or have meatshields) always throw something at him.

You could try wrestling his weapon. Then hacking his whipp'an arm to bits.

Actually ten shields work better than two.

I never fight a lasher on even terms. Always carry stones or garbage weapons to throw and soften up targets you don't want to get too close to and if your worried about them punching through your armor or ignoring it with crazy dwarf physics try to grab the weapon and if you cant strip them of it just hold it still while you stab, slash or otherwise dismantle them.

Lasher's whips can go through adamantine armor. If you go to the whip's raws, you'll see that it has an impact area of 1cm and has a force amplifier of 5. Try changing the impact area to 10 and it will make them much more realistic.

It's pretty odd with those lashers, i've never actually had any problems with them. Perhaps it's my using of axes to systematically disassemble people before they get a hit in (because getting hit spells doom), but the amount of hits i've taken with them can be counted on one hand. The raws do tell a story though (as Teamwork mentioned); the entire mass of the whip travels at an ungodly velocity, hitting an area comparable to that of a poke. No bloody wonder it smacks through everything.
