Any great modern adventure games..?
« on: June 06, 2011, 08:48:16 pm »

I used to play and love adventure games while growing up but I haven't played any for ages until just recently playing two awesome modern adventures. Downfall, which is a disturbing horror story with hand drawn graphics and Dirty Split, a stylish detective story set in the early sixties. They were both amazing and it was great to get back to the wonderful genre.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Preferably not 3D or first person and anything unique, arty, noir-ish, dark/horror or something with great voice acting a plus. Thanks.

Scratches 1. Scratches 2 is out, but I have a hard time paying for adventure games these days so I never tried it. Still, Scratches sounds right up your alley if you haven't tried it. It's still scenes with a mix of first person, I think. Has no combat.

People say Amnesia: Dark Descent is wtf awesome in the horror category. Think that's first person as well though?

I forgot about Machinarium but I thought that was more puzzle, I didn't realize it had some adventure elements. I'm looking into Scratches, it's just that my graphics card is kinda screwy right now so I'm not sure it can handle it but it looks worth taking a shot.

Still Life, perhaps? Solving a serial killer case. It's 3D, but it's pretty good overall. But damn, are the puzzles hard.
Plus, lots of naked dead girls.

Its got lots of puzzles but it is an adventure story about a robot trying to get his girlfriend back. Its in the genre.

Machinarium is a great game, if you like it then you should check out Samorost 1/2 made by the same company. Samorost 1 is free I think, and Samorost 2 is $5 on steam.
