I have evaporative cooling, which is, to put it bluntly, fucking wonderful. The only problem is the humidity it creates; if it's especially humid, doors can be coated in condensation, and shit rusts much more quickly than usual.

E: Also cheaper to run than refrigerative by a long margin

Run a dehumidifier in the house, and run it's drain out to the bushes blocking the sun from coming in the windows :)

Drink quantities of very cold drinks. Instant refrigeration.

Pfft. The time-honored solution for this problem is don't be inside the house. Sit outside somewhere in the shade, drink lots of cold liquids, and try to do absolutely as little as possible.

That only works when its cooler outside then it is inside, something that is often not true.

Au contraire. It works because there's moving air outside versus stagnant air inside a building. Convection draws hotter air up and away and drops cooler air down to ground level. When you're in a confined space, there's limited convection. Having spent multiple summers in an un-air-conditioned dorm in college, I can state categorically that sitting outside feels a hell of a lot better, even if the temperature is the same.

1.Find some old tubing or something in basement (copper preferably, but if you don't feel like spending any money PVC may work).
2. Get either a a bottle that could work comfortably being upside down or a guinea pig water bottle or something, with the top removed.
3. Connect the tubing together, leaving an open spot at the top for the bottle.
4. Affix to the fan in such a way that air will be running past the tubes.
5. Fill the whole thing up with water, making sure it's air tight
6. Fill bottle with ice cubes (they'll drop when they melt enough).
7. Fuck this, save money for AC.
