In the first gen there were several references to real life animals and places (poison types being able to kill Indian elephants, Brock mentioned doves in the anime once, and a ghost type morphing into a mongoose to chase Jessie’s Ekans). The anime also references things such as fried chicken, though there are some instances in the first season of people eating pokemon, Prof. Oak (krabby) and James was strongly considering eating his magikcarp if I remember correctly.
On the note of eating pokemon, which would you find most delicious?
My first choice would be fried combustkin legs *smacks lips* I bet they would be naturally spicy.

The real question is how the hell humans are even alive, even in limited population. There's more than one pokemon that eats 'em (re: the bats), to say nothing of the ones that just wreck the joint.

Uuuuuuuh...        An arceus did it

But more seriously the Sinnoh myths seem to imply that humans and pokemon have and have had a mutual respect for each other, and that by the time that they had grown enough to be at odds humanity had already advanced enough to be able to defend themselves and control them.

I've never really been interested in pokemon (aside from watching a bit of the early anime), but I'm enjoying your LP. :)

I'm looking forward to the next installment! :)

Well for the most part you have to see that evolved pokemon are not only rare in the wild but thrown in very obscure locations far away from humanity or are just territorial.

Also the game elaborates on several things humans can do that are outright impressive... From powerful magic, to psychic powers, the ability to fight pokemon one on one, and even the ability to make pokemon.

It is likely that Humans in the Pokemon universe, like pokemon, can also essentially "gain levels".

Plus there is also the fact that humans are favored by the god pokemon, so humans have long since been able to appease pokemon.

That's right.

Though we'll have to resort to obsidian traps for those pesky fire immune ones.

I dunno, rock's pretty good against fire and flying.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Makes sense! Humans in the Pokemon universe are probably pokemon themselves, hyper evolved forms of Primeape perhaps...

Exactly. Ethics in DF are very realistic - trivial and pointlessly selectively ex/inclusive.
