I am doing the starting campaign as well, although only on medium difficulty. I am now stuck on the last level. God damn that level is a bitch.

I mean, it helps that I can throw away all my carefully preserved high level guys that I stocked up for this level, but damn it is deadly. And they simply have more then me.

I've only played 1.8.2, and I don't recall there being a "Main" campaign in that one. Is it new, or one of the old ones which has been put into greater prominence?

Ah. I'm still looking for the Scepter of Fire in that one. Just allied with the Princess in the caves.

I find it impossible to play that campaign through. Too long and too boring.

Beat the South Guard and the really short one, though. They were fun.

25x Knights. Please tell me you got at least one Grand Knight from the previous level.

I got a Grand Knight from the last level of course, I was a turn away from another, but oh well. The last several levels in the game have been hard on me though. I lost 2 out of 3 of my level three footpads and 2 out of 4 of my Grand Knights. My Mage of Light and fary just don't cut it for healing, and are pretty much worthless in that regard. A charge from the enemy can put down my Grand Knights pretty easy, the only thing that can really survive on the battle field for any amount of time are my Dwarf Lords. I dunno, I got 800 gold, so maybe 10 or 15 high level guys with the rest being knights.

It is still really hard.

If I go after the enemy leaders, that is time when they can all pound me, but when I go after the boss, I get bogged down in a giant rush of units.

Not to mention, there is really no practical way to put my heroes into battle, I can not really protect them at all.

I didn't get Moremirmu, but that's okay.    Now I'm doing the Siege of Elensefar and unfortunately I apparently absorbed the tactics I used in Isle of the Dead (Read:  Throw everything forward with no regard for safety.  If he dies he dies)  That doesn't work in levels without an army of footpads you don't get to keep.

Hum. I thought you did keep the footpads from the Isle of the Dead.

In fact, if I remember correctly, it is the only source of footpads in the whole game and I really wish I had picked up quite a few more.

And yeah, everyone wants more footpads after they realize how damn useful Outlaws/Fugitives can be.

Cript: Which of the three choices in the one level (with the undead from the south and the orcs from the north) did you take? It would've helped if you took the south and gave the princess the armor. And the Scepter. But even if you didn't, perhaps try camping the start area with dwarvish guardsmen.

Edit, part the first: Remember that campaign missions are a hugeass wave of enemies with which the opponent wears out his gold, then a slow trickle.

Secondly, I know there's Steam, but anyone up for a game right now?

How come I played this game for a few months, and then within weeks my brother is automatically thrice as good at it than me!? rageragerage he's already beaten well over half of the highest difficulty level vanilla campaigns
