So right after the corruption comes the jungle after which comes the ocean, i dug out some ground that was separating the ocean and the jungle, i almost flooded it all, thank god water moves somewhat slowly here or else it would be quite a bitch having to fight off sharks and jellyfish all the time.

Last night, we spent at least three hours diverting water from the underground to make "Rapture" our underwater base directly above hell.

We flooded close to probably 5,000 tiles of water and dropped it in....and it all vanished in one foul swoop.

Then someone checked the patch notes. "Hey guys, it says water now evaporates when it reaches Hell."

FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

At least Rapture looks cool.

Night's edge is essentially an upgraded fiery greatsword. I still prefer the mura, but I used it as an ingredient.

Time to get a new muramasa.

What? NOOOOOOO, MY SECONDARY BASE! Now I can't use a water based hellevator.

I guess you could use cobwebs. Just be sure not to break them accidentally.

You could always use lava as the fluid break. Use an obsidian skin potion if you really need to take no damage.

But cobwebs are so boring. Might as well redirect the stopper.

Lava is too damaging, and I don't want to use a few potions for a 5 second trip (I die frequently) to the underworld.

Make a pool right above hell and then a second shaft besides it for the rest of the drop?

I made a herb farm:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's irritating that I have to replant them after each harvest (though I get a lot more seeds from harvesting potted herbs for some reason).

Now trying to grow cactus, does anyone know if it's just "plant sand on ground"?

Yeah. There has to be a certain amount of it though. 2 blocks deep should do it.
Also a word of warning: Cacti absorb blocks above them when they grow. So don't put anything over them.

Does waterleaf maybe only give seeds if it's submerged in water? Also fireblossom near lava?

Wiki says that they should grow underwater/near lava in pots.

Wait, does this mean you can use Cacti as some sort of breaching doomsday flood the dungeon with lava on an odd, time it takes for the cactus to grow timer system?

Yeah, maybe you need to do that to get seeds too.
