The Cavemen: Let's just do this. No Gimmicks.
« on: May 15, 2011, 08:44:58 am »

You start with 7 cavemen, no less intelligent then the modern man, but you lack the resources or technology.

Your task: to survive; Hunt, Steal or develop the growth of food. Find water, scout the area and discover others of your species and continue developement.

You start with 7 dwarves cavemen. You have 2 Women and 5 Men. You have nothing, they have no skills.

Send 3 men to go scouting within your general territory.  Look for water supplies (rivers), potential shelter zones (caves or an area with a stable large half-fallen tree), food routes (animal migration patterns, deer paths, etc.) and food supplies (nuts and berries).

Have the other 2 women forage for food, and the 2 men try to invent fire by friction.

Three Men go out into the wilderness to scout the area. The group is on top of a hill, which is covered by grass and a large boulder at the very top of the hill, not far below is dense pine forest and the three men delve into the forest in different directions. One man goes to the north, where the descent is less steep, and roots around in the trees close to the bald patch atop the hill. He finds little of much interest but some dung left by an animal.

The second man heads to the south, where the descent is steepest. Here, he finds some berry bushes and alerts 2 women above. They begin to gather berries.

The third explorer heads west. He finds nothing here either, just trees and some shallow, small holes in the ground.

The other two men try to make fire by friction, but they have no wood or flint, so they just rub their hands together.

The sky is over cast but still bright. There is a brisk wind from the west.

Have the women continue gathering berries, and also some large stick/branches if possible.

Have one man stay on top of the hill as a lookout and observe the terrain. Have another gather sharp rocks for tools/weapons. Have the remaining three men split off again and explore even further, keeping the hill in sight as much as possible so not to become lost.

The women continue to gather berries. When their hands are full, the dump the berries in a pile on the top of the hill. They also drag large sticks up to the hill and dump them near the boulder.

One man searches the undergrowth and ferns around the hilltop for stones. He finds one large grey rock which can be held and carried easily in two hands and puts it on top of the boulder. He continues his search.

The other three men again search the surrounding forest more, trying not to lose sight of the hilltop. One man, on the north side reaches a level footing. The other two are still on the hillside. They find nothing but some more boulders scattered about in the trees.

The last man remains on lookout. The clouds are thinning. It is still bright.

Continue Zako's order once again. Also, try to gather some vine.

The cavemen continue their toil. Ivy is stripped from some trees and dumped next to the Wood pile.

The men below have scoured the area around the hill. Careful not to lose sight of the opening. This has proved easier said than done but they have scouted out the immediate area pretty well. It appears that the holes in the ground belong to a badger set.

We have:

Large holes have appeared in the Cloud and the Blue sky is visible beyond. It is getting brighter.

The three cavemen should look for some large sticks and small stones, they can hunt the badgers with them. The rest continue on with what they were doing last time.

Yeah lets call in the search party and get them into resource collection.  Large sticks (man-sized), and fist-to-double-knuckle sized stones.

We should consider shelter sometime soon.  We also need a source of water.  Berries are liquid-y and can tide us over for a while though.

The three scouting cavemen look again around the area for small stones and big sticks. They find some good length sticks about but since this is a pine forest large sticks are hard to come across. More vine, berries and large sticks have been harvested.

We have:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Most of the cloud has gone now but it still remains chilly for the cavemen. The sun is reaching it's peak.

The scouting cavemen, are beginning to thirst.

The watchman calls up and everybody comes round the large rock to eat some berries. It is less than appetizing.

Watchman starts to rope together some sticks and stones. He manages to make two spears this turn with the pointiest rocks. The last stick he is attempting to attach the sharper rock too.

Everybody else searches for water. To the south, one of the women finds a small spring just out of sight from the line of trees. She thirstily drinks and calls for the rest of the group.

We should rotate the people on look-out.  Some people might be getting tired now.

Send all three scouting cavemen to the water source to drink and rest for a turn.
2 men with spears go fishing.
1 woman on look-out.
1 woman searching the hill-side for flint.

The three scouts gather round the spring and rest. They begin to chat amongst themselves.

Two other men, Watchman and another, grab the spears and wait by the set and shout down the holes. Occasionally a badger pops his head out to try and bite but fails. There has been no progress in the hunt.

One woman searches through the undergrowth for some black rock. She finds a small chunk at the foot of a tree and brings it back to camp.

The other woman remains on look out.

The day is still rather cloudy. The afternoon is in full swing.
