Most common ore? Probably tetrahedrite.
« on: May 12, 2011, 06:43:30 am »

Every map I embark on, there's always scores upon scores of tetrahedrite.

Thinking of building a billon pyramid to appease Armok.

When I run dfprospect, tetrahedrite tops the ore list all the time. So yeah.

What you guys mean is: Silver for warhammers, copper for everything else.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Seconded.
SO MUCH GALENA.
Lead is only good for chains and minor crafts. Silver, for war hammers and maces.
TOO MUCH GODDAMN LEAD. Too much even for lead goblets and barrels for export. The mountainhome may start suspecting something. And the humans. And the elves.

Create gunpowder, export lead at higher velocities.

I actually have 3 different ores for iron under my fortress. Each one doesn't match tetrahedrite alone, but combined they have more than 4 times anything else. Is that rare?

I always get tons and tons of iron. I either get half the map is magnetite, or half the map is copper. Normally magnetite  :P

Tetrahedrite. Magnetite when I actually embark on a sedimentary layer... Tons of Galena, all the time. Tons of silver and gold when I get a location which is primarily some stripe of igneous rock. But tetrahedrite being common makes life easier when I find out I've picked a site with a surface of metamorphic rock. No native iron or steel in this fort, sadly. >.< At least there's always traderite, for all your import needs, and goblinite when I get around to drowning my sieges. Or filling them with holes and bolts.

I always get Magnetite and Tetrahedrite. So; copper furniture, pots, bins, and shields. Steel armor (except shields), traps and weapons. Masons, carpenters and glassmakers aren't left with much to do, really. They end up being military or more metalsmiths.

I've not checked to see if you can make them, but silver shields would be great for bashing, no?
