Making eggs inedible?
« on: May 10, 2011, 02:34:36 pm »

I'm working on a creature that reproduces by eggs.  But, I don't want the eggs to be edible.  How do I do that?

If you make the egg out of metal, then dwarves won't be able to eat it. Don't quote me on this, though.

Think about how awesome it would be if they did, though.

Think about how awesome it would be if that was ALL they ate...

If it's an egg it's edible, regardless of the material AFAIK.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
Link for full quote. 'tis mighty funny.

The yolk and the white determine if it's edible if I recall. The shell is what it's actually made of. So dwarves eat eggshells!

Sounds to me like they crack the shell and eat what's inside, since the only thing they check for edibility is the inside.

Lame Dwarves. I, personally, eat the entire egg, shell included, they should too.

I don't really eat egg shells.

I think soft-boiling allows you to eat the shell too, but I don't know. I don't eat eggs very often  :-\

The material of the egg insides as it has been told determines if it's edible or not.

The shell material determines the egg "item" material properties.

So if I change [EGG_MATERIAL:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:EGG_WHITE:LIQUID] to [EGG_MATERIAL:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:STONE_TEMPLATE:LIQUID] it would make the entire egg inedible?  Or do I have to type something else in?

No. You didn't specify the part of the egg.

Remove:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And add:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Then the egg will be made of steel.

Ok.  And that will make it inedible, but still hatchable?
