33f: "Needs butcherable unrotten nearby item"
« on: December 21, 2007, 07:46:00 pm »

I have a stockpile with three dead unicorns in it, unrotten (the herd walked through the brand-new traps on the way to my trade depot earlier in the month).  The stockpile is immediately adjacent to the butcher shop, moved from about 5 tiles away.

When my hunters take unicorns (or groundhogs) home, the butcher accepts them.  Earlier in the game, I was killing macaques with wild abandon as they kept taking that same passage a dozen at a time, which made for half my income, taken to the 5-tiles-away stockpile.  What's wrong with these unicorns?

I have a copy of the save-game, if that's useful.

I believe this is working as intended.

Unicorns have the BUTCHERABLE_NONSTANDARD attribute, and do not have the PET or PET_EXOTIC attributes.

I quote the wiki:

quote:
BUTCHERABLE_NONSTANDARD If a creature has this tag, it may only be slaughtered (that is, the live creature is taken to the Butcher's Shop and slain). If it dies of any other cause, the corpse cannot be butchered.

PET Allows the creature to be tamed.

PET_EXOTIC You need the Dungeon master noble to tame the creature.

So unicorn corpses cannot be butchered, and unicorns cannot be tamed, so they can't be slaughtered either.

If your butcher really was converting unicorn corpses to unicorn meat and unicorn fat, then that's a bug.  (Or mis-documentation in the wiki.)

Ah, now I get it.  I'm pretty sure I've seen unicorns be butchered after hunting, but it's not unlikely I'm wrong and that I was just seeing hunted-down, rotted-dry unicorns being turned to bone and skull.
