They've said a large distributor has already gotten in contact with them. Hoping that means maybe a month to finalize a build for release and not much longer.

I'm also praying it's Valve, or at least someone of their caliber, and not a smaller distributor or one I'm going to regret paying like EA, Impulse, Direct2Drive, ect.... In the whirlwind of excitement over Terraria, there's plenty of room for something stupid or ugly to happen.

I don't care. As long as it's not a silly price and they don't meddle into development.

There could be a thread why people are not happy with EA.
One LOTR game does not make up for things like oversimplified Spore.

Or hyping the 'games are superviolent juvenile things that should be banned immediately' angle in their advertising, right when it was getting to the point where games were starting to get folks to see that they aren't all about that.

Dead Space 2's advertising campaign ("It's everything you love in a game" *scenes of violence, gore and little old ladies looking at scenes from the game in shock and saying that nobody should ever play this*) Paying folks to pretend to protest Dante's inferno...  All to try to make an extra buck, while throwing the entire industry back down the hole it's been struggling for years to work itself out of.  EA is the only game company I have ever seriously considered boycotting.

EDIT for topic relevance:  Any news on moddibility?

Paying folks to pretend to protest Dante's inferno...

Pretty much everything about the Inferno ad campaign is best forgotten. "Photograph yourself sexually harassing underpaid models! And win prizes!"

I'm putting my money on Steam, here. This is exactly the kind of thing that Valve would snap up while all the other (read: lesser) publishers/distributors assume it's a passing fad.

And I doubt it'll be EA/Activision/etc, judging by their use of the word "distributor" instead of "publisher." I could be wrong though.

Re: Modding, there was something early on about no initial support for, say, re-skinning. So no going about changing character sprites or whathaveyou, at least in the immediate beginning. At the same time, though, I vaguely remember the server pop support being changed around by outright file editing, so there's no telling. Iirc, XNA's pretty easy to just muck around wit' yerself. I'll fire a question into the fairly rapidly scrolling IRC channel and see if anything interesting pops out.

I couldn't take the IRC. Way too much spam.

And yeah, EA doesn't really have a DD arm that has market impact...but I was just using them as an example of some soulless company snapping it up.

Fun fact too, Terrraria is funded by a string of flash game sites owned by Redigit. I find it interesting he hasn't gone out of his way to say which ones. It explains why Terraria looks this good; he's actually able to pay people to work on it.

Microavatar?  Oh yea my old tiny one?  This is the same one I had before, it's just blown up with transparency added.  The old one was the same size as stonesense sprites I made.  Then folks in the rate the avatar thread complained it's too small and somebody made me a full size version.  Then I snatched it up and removed a few odd pixels that were made more obvious with the larger size.

Well the sprites are just edits of FF5 sprites, I assume there's going to have to be some kind of change to the spriting system sometime, otherwise Squeenix might get a bit butthurt and sue like big multinational companies are prone to do to the little guy.  I mean it is squaresoft art...

They've already changed some of them if you look through PBat's LPs. At least the merchant is different. I haven't gotten past his episode 11 or 12ish where the merchant shows up, so I don't know if he has other NPCs and if their sprites are different.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Really? *looks*

Huh yer right.  Well that's a good sign then, I would hate some kind of cease and desist coming down and shutting this down.  Besides, Galuf as my shopkeeper would really bug the hell outta me for some reason.
