Your links had colons in front which prevented them from working right.  I'm a little curious as to why, but I corrected them in this quote.
Regardless, hehe, thanks for the kaiju tunes.

Now is Strange is one of my favorite songs from They Might Be Giants. Catchy melody, engaging music, intriguing lyrics with hidden meanings, and overall an exciting, driving-forward (?) feel. Also a somewhat theme-ish sort of quality that makes it easy to stick in my head.

I just can't stand how nasal the vocals are, otherwise I'd listen to them more more.

Oh neat, another TMBG fan! Well. A quasi-fan.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend listening to some different albums - they shift their style significantly every few albums, so there's a decent chance that there's at least one album without too much nasality. I haven't noticed any unusually nasal vocals, but perhaps I'm just used to it.

Infected mushroom
Woo! Psytrance. Or whatever flavour of trance that is...
Man, it's the start of spring. I am so keen for this weather to warm up and to go raving. Not that one couldn't go to to a rave in cold weather, since they're generally heated artificially even without the levels of body heat generated - my electronica friends are just mostly too lazy to leave their house in the extreme cold, something I am sometimes guilty of as well. >.>

In entirely unrelated news, I've been listening to a bunch of fuzz rock to get a feel for bands at an upcoming festival.
Most Australian fuzz-rock, as it turns out, is boring as shit. Gruff clean vocals, bland and tasteless guitar lines with nowhere near enough distortion, beats that are supposed to start toes tapping but are really generic as hell... I went from one band to another on at least one occasion and was unable to tell them apart.

But! It's not all bad... here's some fuzz-rock that actually manages to be interesting: El Colosso - Cannonball. I'm quite keen to see these guys now.
Don't think I'd ever checked El Colosso out before, probably because I just assumed they were incredibly boring stoner rock judging by the bands they usually play with... perhaps they are actually kind of shit, and I just like them more because I listened to them for the first time after a bunch of bands that almost bored me to tears? Who knows.

Here's a band that is definitely good by any metric, though: A Basket of Mammoths - Unkept and Matted (full album).
I had the same experience with them, always assuming they were bad, but in this case I think I actually did listen to them years ago before they shifted their style somewhat. Now it's freaking excellent! ...Not sure if it technically counts as "fuzz rock", maybe more heavy psych or doom rock, but oh well. It is certainly fuzzy in any case. ^-^

Oh and since we were talking about psytrance... Big Fucking Robots - End Your World. They might not exactly count as psytrance, I don't think, but they have a similar vibe and I discovered them from my electronica friends, who apparently discovered them at a psytrance festival, so... there's definitely a connection if you ask me.
This is a good track, but it still doesn't really do justice to their "live" sets. Wouldn't mind seeing them again.

idk if El Colosso sound like anything very interesting, it's squarely in that post-grunge sort of sound. It's a similar thing to how in the 1980s everyone incorporated punk style aesthetics into top-40 music. There were some great bands in the grunge era, but if you do anything that remotely sounds like you could have been part of that scene back then ... then it's a sure sign you're making boring music now.

Also note that the post-grunge people are far more uniform than actual grunge. You had bands like Mudhoney and Love Battery back then as part of the original scene, but everyone since then it's basically a commercialized blend of the same elements of Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Who, to be honest are probably the two most straight-up boring bands of the original scene. Take note people, boring sells.

I almost deleted that for being... indulgent.
But it's more than that.  It's a track my dad shared with me, during an especially troubling time.
For both of us.

And it was really good to rediscover it, over a decade later.  We always liked trance, and I always leaned toward electronica, which is where I'd put this.  Probably some mix...  I certainly don't claim to be an expert, ha!

At this point in my life, music exists to summon memories.  Good and bad.
Whereas for younger people, it's a way to seek out new ideas.  And incorporate some of them, making them part of their identity.  Associate them with memories.  And later call upon them.

Edit:  Another song from that time.  I'm Invisible.  Much more "trance", but still... something we share.
