Glad to share. I hadn't ever heard of them until I was pointed to that song, and of course I fell in love. Liking their sound, too, they remind me of Stratovarius if they were a bit less... operatic, maybe?

Power metal is best metal, natch. Hammy and nerdy über alles. :P

Lycus - Chasms

Beautiful album. I still need to get a digital copy of it... I only have it on tape and I haven't managed to set up a sound system at my new place yet. But, enough of that! It's a great album, and the lyrics are rather excellent, too. I should dig out the lyrics sheet from my tape, maybe see if the lyrics are already available online or not. :)

I passed over it because the band name and song title seemed generic and clichéd, but damn this is actually really good!

Balkandji - Zvezdica

Some Bulgarian folk metal band with a very pleasant-sounding singer and really badass choral bits.
As a Russian, I have a very... tangential understanding of Bulgarian, but what I've been able to figure out is that the hero is kinda fucked because:
a) his fire has gone out from the cold in a dark geran (I have no bloody idea what a geran is)
b) he's lost his strength in a dark dream
c) his youth has been spent among miraculous (or perhaps wild?) storms
d) he's in a confined prison behind glass locks (?)
And he's addressing his star because that should fix all that somehow.
But maybe I'm just misreading it all, I dunno.

I assume it's like a ger, which is a type of tent/hut thing.

I assume it's like a ger, which is a type of tent/hut thing.
That would also make sense, but after checking the Bulgarian Wikipedia (Google Translate doesn't know that word), it turns out geran means 'water well'.
I guess being stuck in a dark well is kinda shitty, though I have no idea where does the fire come in. Perhaps his fire going out and him being in a dark well are two separate things that are happening.
I assume the tent-type ger would be called yurta in Bulgarian, same as in Russian,

Huh, I expected this post to have a link in it somewhere.

Anyway, I decided I'll write a script that will grab all the Youtube links from this thread and maybe compile a playlist if I can figure out the Youtube API. Because, I mean, there's 287 pages of great music here, that's gotta be something.
Plus, if there's metadata, we could see what artist is posted most often here and other stuff like that.

Matt Smith - Storm's A-Comin'

Matt Smith is one of my favourite artists. I like this, but it's... not his usual style.

Theocracy - Wishing Well

This, on the other hand, is.

Edit:

And something completely different:

Hugh Masekela - Stimela

You don't have to speak the language to understand this song, don't worry. It's as much about the mood as anything else.
