A Gold Spear.
160800 dorf bucks and covered in encrustings and decorative carvings.
Lovely, but seriously, i'm having the worst luck with artifact weapons. My first was a silver axe, and now a golden spear...
Am i right in thinking that this will be about as effective as a butter knife?

I think everyone has bad luck with artifact weapons about 90% of the time that they actually get one.

I would say, if you end up with legendary weaponsmiths from the mood then forget about the artifact and just make use of their legendary weaponsmithing abilities. 20 master quality steel axes/etc are probably more useful than one artifact steel axe anyway.

I think the best I've ever gotten is a wooden crossbow which isn't too bad except that this gains you a legendary crossbow maker and not weaponsmith. Before that the best I'd seen was a nickel sword or something.

That spear's not that bad, if it wasn't a possession.

If it was, then that's the worst frickin' spear ever.

They tend to make artifacts based on their preferences, so if your miner likes platinum and war hammers give him a crash course in weaponsmithing and hope for the best.

Armok has blessed your dwarves. They should be rightly recognized as the bringers of an epic and long era of illustrious bloodshed.

If I got an artifact adamantine sword I think I'd probably have to stash it somewhere, abandon the fort, and create an adventurer right away.

I was pretty happy with Depresseddens, an iron warhammer menacing with siltstone spikes. Not worth too much economically, but it bashes heads quite nicely.

When I was reorganizing my inventory to fit all by books on life and death into various bags and things, I looked at my inventory and saw that I was multigrasping a necromancer slab.  It was pretty hilarious.
I think that would be an excellent way to impart the critical lessons of life and death to the ignorant masses.
