The first games I ever played were for the Pico.  I don't remember what they were though.

A combination of:
Definitely the original Super Mario Bros.  My parents bought an NES with Mario bundled, and I couldn't have been older than 3.
And:
I'll be damned if I remember. I seem to have rejected all my memories from before I was 6 or 7.
Although I think it was Final Fantasy I played first(and failed completely at), but I could be wrong. Hell, I learned to read playing video games(this was after FF though ;)).

Shit, I can't remember the name. I was perhaps 4 at the time though.

It was for the Commodore 64, and was primitive even for that (close to atari level). It was a top-down driving game of the avoid the obstacles type. Your car looked like a formula 1 car, or as close as you can get with a 10 pixel single-color sprite. You were supposed to drive along a road which had oil slicks that made you spin out and other cars that made you explode. From time to time you had to stop at roadside gas stations and refuel. It might have had "mania" in the name. That's about all I can remember.

EDIT: mobygames failed me, but google did not!

On PC- BUDOKAN: THE MARTIAL SPIRIT.  :D

First game was something like Mr. Doo, River raid, agent USA, Aztec challenger, Karateka ...not sure but it was something from my first cassette on ATARI 800XL.

CASTLE, I guess? Back on the IBM in the 80s. It's so old I can't even find a direct reference to it.

The first game I clearly remember is Digger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digger_%28video_game%29), because it's the first game I was able to start myself. Barely knew how to read, let alone understand English; must have been 4 or 5. I'm pretty sure I played games before that, but before Digger the chronology and names get fuzzy.

The first game I remember playing was Ultima VI. I think I was about 5 at the time. I remember at the time my brother was really into it and I would pester him until he let me play, then I'd just get on his boat and sail around, or wander out into the wilderness.

I remember Digger and Budokan too. They were on the same floppy with Alley Cat, so they could have been my first picks as well. Now I went with the alphabet. :P Frogger would be a strong contester as well. King's Quest II was where I learned my English for the first time pretty much, playing it with a dictionary in hand.

Sonic, I remember the frustration of waiting for those fish to go away, then walking across the bridge only to have them appear again and kill me.

It was probably some educational game at school.

First game at home was a weird racing game that tried to emulate 3d on the Amiga.

The first _real_ game was HL when I was 7 years old. Fuck me that was a scary game.

I'm getting old. I still think of HL as a fairly recent game.

I can't remember that far back, but it was probably something on the C64 when I was 4ish.   :P
