« on: April 06, 2011, 02:21:21 pm »

Its snowing outside and the rivers frozen but i still have bees. thought they didnt appear in freezing biomes?

As every thread seems to need this nowadays, yes, there are badgers. sigh.

[BIOME:NOT_FREEZING] means any land biome except mountains, tundras, and glaciers.

How are glacier embarks nowadays btw? From what I recall the main issue in 40d was having all dwarves sleep on the floor, but it wasn't too bad. Now with caves and better caravans id figure a glacier wouldn't be a particularly difficult embark.

Easier than ever. Underground farms don't need irrigation anymore, being the most prominent improvement. Also, you can bring a lot of chickens and turkeys for eggs. Water can still be a problem, though.

Yes, but underground soil does not require mud.

Glaciers don't have soil though. I'd like to see plants growing in ice, though.

If all else fails there is mud on cavern floors and probably at least some amount of water in the caverns.

I just realized two things. 1. For the Win and F___ the World have the same initials. 2. They have the same meaning in Dwarf Fortress.

I somehow did have a farm going in 40d, I am thinking either I had an aquifer or underground river. I do remember that at first hunting was how I survived.
