Problem: The item will actually have to touch the enemy for that to work. And since the weapon uses bolts, the weapon won't gain any energy unless you smash an enemy with it since it's not touching the enemy.

I've got it. If I make a wand of soulstone creation, I can just touch it to rocks to transform them, preventing me from shoving a new facet of myself into a rock every turn.

Of course, this requires I succeed at it in the first place, instead of making a facet-imbuing wand like I'm going to.

Use shielding magic to enchant my main-hand (right-hand) shield with an automatic magic shield.
EDIT: The magical shield would deflect most of the magic damage back to the souce of it (the attacker)
