Making a door between walls
« on: April 01, 2011, 02:57:02 pm »

Basically, what I want to do is this:

-------DD-------
-                    -
-                    -
-                    -
-                    -
-                    -
-                    -
----------------

..But it seems that I can't make doors between walls. Is there a way around this?

You should be able to place a door [after building one] on a tile that is right beside a wall.   like..     [WALL][DOOR] or [DOOR][WALL].

The entrance ot my base is always 2 doors. [WALL][DOOR][DOOR][WALL]

Double-doors are eminently possible, as Doors only require 1 orthagonally adjacent wall.

Triple-doors are more problematic & it's probably a better bet to use floodgates or a drawbridge (yes, I know Triples weren't mentioned).

That's still odd. My current fortress is above ground [some of it, atleast] so it's made of nothing but built walls, and I have doors everywhere in there.

Has the wall actually been constructed? or just queued?

'cos you can't order the installation of doors until the adjacent walls are physically present.

Have your dwarves finished constructing the walls yet? You can't build doors off of blueprints.

Also, there's got to be a floor present for a door to be built. This floor can be constructed or natural, and can also be the top of a wall on the z-level below.

Finally, you probably realize this, but you want to leave a gap in the walls. You can't build doors in the same place as a wall, there has to be an open space for the door to go in.
