Sengoku
« on: March 28, 2011, 08:22:29 am »

So, I'm probably building a rep for not finishing these roll-to-dodge(s), but this time I'm going to try to keep it a little more simple, not overextend myself, and leave a lot of the game to diplomacy between players.

So what I'm going for is a roll to dodge in which you each represent a samurai retainer in the employ of one of the clans of the Japanese Sengoku period (or maybe a ronin? Start from the VERY bottom and work up, well, I'll leave it up to you guys), and work your way up from there to maybe eventually take over a clan, or build one of your own. If I get some interest, I'll start to work out rules, so if you take an interest, just voice it in a post.

I think the main problem is that "you're a samurai" isn't very descriptive as a game type. Your mention that you want to keep it simple and leave a lot of it to player diplomacy probably tells us more about the game than your description of the actual premise.

I realize it's hard to describe a game that doesn't exist yet, but it's hard to decide if you're interested in a game that doesn't exist yet either. Things like how lethal combat would be, whether or not we'd be leading troops, or how historically accurate it'd be might be worth mentioning or at least asking about.

Okay, sure. So, I'm going for a great deal of accuracy, you will DEFINITELY be leading troops, eventually you will be getting into leading a clan and all that that entails (as detailed as you guys make it), and the lethality of the combat will parallel its realism, so very.

You get stabbed once in the liver and due to lack of medicine you die after an agonizing two weeks and there is nothing you can do?

Not THAT realistic, let's go for... Kurosawa movie with Toshiro Mifune (like in the seven samurai movie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Samurai) kind of realistic.

Are we prepared to go with only 2 people, or should I give it more time before I put my heart into it?
