Even if you accept that a) homsexuality is caused by a specific gene which can be turned off and b) that it would be desirable to cure it... wouldn't there be, like, other genes to be concentrating on?  Like, maybe cystic fibrosis or something.

Although, if pushing the gene idea got homophobic groups to donate money to gene therapy research, then that could be a positive outcome .

Still flourishing. There was even released an APP to Iphones that should help cure gays, Dunno how, but that Apple actually accepted(? Can't remember a better english word, certified?) it should speak lengths.

They did remove the app at least. After public outcry.

I usually try my best to understand people's positions, even if I vehemently disagree with them, but I really just don't get that kind of stuff. Why do they care?

You expect people to care about medicine and progress when there's people around them that they fear? Generous. Though you may be on to something here. I'm not ashamed to admit I wouldn't mind a bit of spin on certain research if it got the opposition to help things along. This is why I'm an engineer at heart, not a scientist

1. Homosexuality, if genetic, would be a complex mix of a lot of different contributing genes.
2. Therefore it would be very hard to treat unless there's already a lot of groundwork on genetic therapy in place.
3. Therefore we should focus on curing simple genetic conditions (Huntingdon's, CF, sickle cell anaemia etc).
4. If we successfully cure those diseases, maybe one day there'll be a cure for homosexuality via this method.
5. So hey, want to donate to help us cure our diseases?

I certainly wouldn't agree with these groups, but if they put their money towards useful medical research it'd certainly be an improvement...

I've always found that comparison to be strange. There is a legitimate reason to be afraid of people with crazy superpowers. I know I'd be nervous standing in line at a bank with a guy who could vaporize the building with a thought. Just like I'm a little nervous when my neighbor's kid fires his bb gun in the middle of the neighborhood.

However, I don't expect I'll ever come to harm because somebody is gay.

...I'm actually being extremely cynical here.  Note there's no appeal to help the people with diseases.  It's just "If you do this, you can help cure homosexuality once and for all!".

That's somewhat the point. Cure them of their money and give them a placebo in the form of the thought that they helped fund research that will cure homosexuality.
