Oh no, GamerKnight, I'm staying out of this one. I'm not going to attack you, but I'm not going to bring the wraith of the entire forums down on my head. Tis' a fate worse then being an elf.

Why physical over emotional or mental? What makes it more important? Are emotional and mental not enough? It'd be pretty much guesswork to predict physical effects of a concept this ridiculous.

eh... i'll not atack your utopy, i'll just say what your asking is "give me one disadvantage of perfection?" when you're arguing that to achieve your perceived perfection, a lot of terrible things must happen

i agree that it could be nice if we were all the same. we aren't, and it wouldn't be nice if anything tried, by any effective means, to make us all the same

Ah, I see I missed that word "physical". I have to agree with Jackie, though. And add that "mental"/emotional does equal physical damage. Do you realise what kind of stress/pressure levels living in such a repressive society would result in? It's hard enough being different in the world we have today.

And I guess what Askot said. There really is no point of arguing with you when your "arguments" are based on this "perfect" of worlds, no matter how implausible the concept is.

Ok, so you guys know, last time I was on this thread I was talking out my ass with very little sleep.

So GK, are you denying all the accusations as to why your utopia wouldn't actually be a utopia, or are you saying that it would be YOUR utopia and no-one else's?

Thank you Max White, for that amusement. And thank you Askot, for seeing what I am saying with a clarity that Jackrabbit does not possess. And why is this implausible? With genetic engineering and behaviour modification, my dream could be a reality. And you know the best part? If the entire world was like this, would anyone know that they were missing something? Would people in East Berlin have defected to West Berlin if West Berlin was the same as their home? No. I just don't see your problem with peace and harmony. I just don't. But I'm not going to push this issue any further and I'm not going to post on this thread again.

If everyone was physically the same, then I'm sure the human mind would end up differentiating everyone as it always has -- probably by means of how we differentiate twins.

If you want to talk about changing the way the mind works.... well, good luck.

Huh. I thought you would say something about my hot air powering the steam forge. But whatever. You missed your chance. Now, Cthulhu belittled me by saing I only think this way because I'm sixteen. Who is he to say what will happen to my ideas and beliefs? And I challenge you all to give me a physical negative effect (no emotional or mental) to counteract the positives of peace and order.

Aren't peace and order more or less emotional effects, anyway? Or at the very least, they would exist to facilitate emotional effects. In the real world, earth is a sphere of iron orbiting a nuclear furnace, completely untouched by the machinations of mere humans. We're talking about society here, so I don't really see what you mean by "physical".

Well we would have to be a lot more sensitive to body language to tell one from the other. The way one stands, walks and generally holds ons self would become there 'appearance' (This opens to door to being racist against people who slouch :P) and with this extra sensitivity to body language, we may become better at communication, leading to less conflict.

Of coarse variance is one of the prerequisites of evolution, so humans would look that way forever, and never adapt to any new environment, natural or artificial. Right now, humans are on average slightly better looking then they were a few thousand years ago, because good looking people have more sex, so safe to assume if you could time travel, then going into the distant future wouldn't be in your best interest, as you would be too ugly for their standards.

Utopia is happiness. Difference breeds fear. Fear breeds unhappiness. Uhappiness breeds anger. Anger breeds intolerance. Intolerance breeds atrocities. Atrocities breed unhappiness.

No offense, but you have to stop thinking you're so profound and wise. You're not. You just harbor adolescent arrogance.

Diversity is important, especially in a social species. If you don't understand why, then that is a serious problem.

The same could be achieved if everyone adopted stoicism, which would be less inhumane.
Both options are unrealistic though.
