Ahh EverQuest, the game that had collected dust on my shelf that I never go into.

I played this a very, very long time ago. Played a Shaman. I remember kiting gigantic monsters solo, like hill giants when I was low level and a dinosaur out on an island between the continents when I was high level. I seem to recall getting valuable gems from the dinosaur... Been a long time.

I had a lot of fun with it back then, but I don't think I could ever get back into it.

At the very least load it up for the nostalgic menu music.

I love me some EQ. I might be interested, but I make no promises. I'd play enchanter possibly. Maybe rogue, if the B12'ers don't mind me practicing pickpocket on mobs.

Do they have the UI updates like the Find guide that leads you places with that yellow 'snake' to follow? I assume it's the same as the other servers, except content is not unlocked yet? No Plane of Knowledge, so that you have to donate to druids/wizards to teleport you? I missed that part of the game, getting stuck/dieing somewhere far away and needing teleport. Also, is the trade bazaar available or is it like my old memories of EQ with everyone standing in North Freeport /shouting what they have to sell? Ahhh, the memories.

Also, do they have hotzones with the crazy strong loots? Finally, is it like the old days when a Sarnak Emblazoned Hauberk or whatever is actually decent loot and not outclassed by a hotzone level 3 drop for example?

Which expansion is it up to?

I've probably used up my trial time on my ancient account, but on a new server it wouldn't really matter.

Anyways though, the last time I played EQ I raised a level 29 enchanter to around level 60 in a month with hotzone bonus exp on Veeshan.

EQ is actually where the name Duuvian came from. It was randomly generated.

Also, the music is awesome, Rakonas.

EDIT: Also, EQ runs on my 2005ish laptop, and only lags a little in really heavily populated areas.

EDIT2: What areas are you guys playing in? I personally love Freeport and the Commonlands for levels 1-15or so. Orc camps in Commonlands get you to 12ish, then you're ready for Dervish Cutthroats, who are also in Commonlands. It's a good idea for evil races, since the orcs give FP faction and drop Deathfist belts that can be turned into the Militia while wolf-formed to be allowed into Freeport.

EDIT3: Is there somewhere I can read the differences between a normal server and progression? I like the UI and zone changes such as Commonlands being one zone, but it would be cool to not have all the expansion's content unlocked.

I might join up on this with a trial, and buy it when I get my job...

Any tips? Only two MMO's I played consistently are WoW and EVE...

EDIT: EQ1 or EQ2 by the way?

Ah yes, Allizewsaur the mega hp dino.  I remember soloing him on my wizard for quite awhile.  Even earlier, the entire guild (which had so much suck in it) used him as practice so people could learn not to suck so much.

The UI is mostly modern EQ, and I believe the CL are one zone. The server will start voting on whether to unlock the first expansion in late may; we currently have 0 expansions.
From what I've heard hotzones are not going to be active for a while, though.
Almost all of the names I use come from EQ, though Rakonas comes from my Ratongan in EQ2 when it first came out.
Personally I'm in Crushbone for now, though I have yet to see another B12er so wherever most people group is completely undecided.
fippydarkpaw.com is basically the forums for the server.

Upon checking out the raging flamewars on the forums, looks like they've got THAT part of the classic EQ experience down pat!

Is the game F2P? If so i'd consider downloading it and giving it a try.

<snip>

No hotzones. They accidentally left in "newbie armour quests", though. They have find and a bunch of other features from new expacs, but not too much. Most of the content isn't open. Only original stuff.

I will seriously consider downloading it and playing for the free month. It would be nice to have a regular guild like the old days, instead of soloing all the time  (which has it's charm {especially as an enchanter}) like I did for the most part on that month the last time I tried it a few years ago.

Also, the lack of hotzones is not upsetting to me. Is there a good level spread as far as people to group with? Like I said, I solo-ed most of the way from 29 to 60ish in hotzones that were way over my level range in about a month, mostly due to not seeing groups in that level range. I was just getting to the levels where charm is really good. It was a different EQ experience, especially what with all that loot dropping in hot zones that blew the classic gear out of the water.

EDIT: This was on Veeshan, a normal server, not the Progression server.

Giving it a shot, at least for one month. This download may take ten or so hours. Thinking Gnome Shadowknight, if its possible.

Played in 1999/2000 and then went back and played briefly in 2004.
