Let's Play: Minecraft: steampunk community colony edition!
« on: February 27, 2011, 05:10:18 pm »

The Idea either being:
We pass the save around in turns like a DF community game or we get a multiplayer server up.

Feel free to pick one, it shall be decided.

You need:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=48884

Back story:
I awoke this morning, a few of the other dwellers were already at work, I made my way to the reactor when a few members of spire security found me and took me to the storage grid along with a few other dwellers. (these will be the late joiners, if we have any) we were told their plans of leaving the spire and rebel against the common wealth, we were going to steal the trade ship, normaly we would be twarted before we began but this spire, this small spire is on the edge of known land. We have few supplys but they think we will manage.
We finished loading hurried onto the ship and took off, we were going to find a sizable island as far as we could go. A tremor shook the air as the spires defense cannon fired endless torrents of arrows and explosive shells in the direction of our fleeing ship. Bam, the back left engine stopped responding, it was hit and the baloon was sheredded by the blast, we fell from the sky like a bird with a rock tied to it, impact systems engaged and we were headed in a head on collision with the remenants of old earth, before the planet broke apart...

-- Chapter 1: Crash
Part one: Saint's turn
We hit land, I managed to scramble from the cockpit to the engines room, noticing it was swelterinly hot and there was a fire burning somewhere nearby, I climbed into the engine room,  pulled the levers and managed to shut down the engines, the engineers were dead. I moved a cot from the crew deck to the cockpit and stripped the consoles, they arn't usefull so I used the materials to patch up the main console, like this thing will ever fly again anyway.
I did also manage to save one chest from the cargo before they all fell out of the ship, luckily I think one of them is close by, no idea how far though, as far as directions? I think we should just accecpt that the ship was probably facing north when it crashed, it's easier on all of us. I believe I shall rest now, I feel light headed, probably from the concussion.
picture!
And so it begins.

What kind of framerates are you getting with a map like that?
Those floating islands are murderous to the lighting engine.

I'm guessing a server run on that map would be slow as all hell. But I'd get in on a succession game.

I'd be up for succession if you tell me how you got that map.

I've gotta ask too

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I play full view distance and fps wise I never lag.
then again I have the habit of playing crysis maxed out so that's not a good bench mark.

To make the map:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1022&t=184941

I made it 64 x 64 chunks I think because I didn't want to wait an hour for the map when I made it.

Save passing prevailed, on to the next item of our adventure.

Is it with mods?

If you lag, use Optimine. Even a crappy PC can handle max distance and smooth lighting with this tweak.

Also a MUST HAVE for this mod: Steampunk Airship and Steamboat!

P.S. Nevermind, I see that the airship is in the pack. Still, it looks like you miss a steam boat! ADD IT! :D

yeah I have the airship mod installed but I plan to do the major things with a large multi block airship and move it with mineedit.
All large events like that will probably be done with an external program.

I'v never used it so I have no idea.

No proper islands were able to be found so I took a creative turn with it.
you'll love the map though still.
