Dwarf Got Caught in a Cage Trap..

Now how can I go about.. getting him out of it exactly? I have him in the animal stockpile.

Build the cage, then de-assign the dwarf with q.

Or, dump him into a snake pit.

I tried that before, unassigning him from the cage, nobody came to let him out. And my fortress is only 18 people, and the dwarf is a legendary weaponsmith, I would prefer not to sacrifice him.

Build the cage, hook it up to a lever, pull lever. Easy as that.

Consider it protective custody, only let him out when you need weapons crafted.
