Magma Trench, fireproof goblins.
« on: February 20, 2011, 09:35:39 pm »

To protect the outside area of my fortess, i've build a trench, about 3z deep. I also had some traps at the entrances, during a werewolf seige, some of the furry bastards dodged into the trench, sustaining minor injurys. Then some goblin ambushers dropped by and went into the trench as well. Luckly I had it set up to fill the trench with lava thru a fortification. So it's still filling up now, but I have a goblin in 5/7 magma, and a few werewolves in about that who seem to be fine? I'm not sure why they are still alive. The proximity of the enemys is causing so much job spam it's driving me crazy. Does anyone know why the lava is not melting the enemys?

And is there anything short of trying to get some marksdwarves firing down the hole, or rerouting water to carbonite them that I can do?  :-X

Dwarf Fortress: Drowning in magma.

Anyways, this sounds like you have temperature off.  Either turn it on, or question yourself as to why you built such a shallow, non-flaming moat?

I'm running deons genisis mod if that means anything. i'm pretty sure the temprature is on, I haven't messed with the raws at all.

Edit: I'm not very good at modding this game, what would I have to do to turn on the temprature?

You could just change the homeotherm of goblins to some ridiculous number and then open the game, advance it one frame, then go mod them back to normal.

wait...

[does that still work in this version?]

DF_folder\data\init\d_init.txt

Find [TEMPERATURE:OFF], it should be located along with a group of other variables making a block of options, so it should be easy to find.  Change to ON.  This isn't really "modding" these are just options that weren't included as an in-game interface of options.

Fun Fact: A dwarf in 7/7 magma will get dabbling swimmer before burning.

H-How... How do you KNOW this?  How many times did you pit your own dwarves, watching their skill chart "Good, good, swim like a little fire imp...  Ah, this batch isn't magma-proof either?  Next batch will be different!"

AHAHAHAHHAHHAH

I turned temprature on and now the outside of my fortress is littered with bodies and blood, surrounded by lava trenches belching smoke and the screaming of goblins.

Thanks guys!

Object testing arena.

Another fact: Dwarfs take ~9 months to reach legendary swimmer in 4-5/7 water.
