You have discovered a shrine!
« on: February 16, 2011, 04:30:00 pm »

I have discovered a shrine, first time in Adventure Mode, I looked at the wiki but found nothing. The shrine is a small limestone structure with pillars. There are partial skeletons and corpses of humans, dwarves and elves scattered all around, they don't have any items.
Maybe mass suicide?
Anybody else had any strange experiences like this?

Shrines are the lairs of titans and colossi! Those people didn't kill themselves they were murdered by the megabeast.

You usually find the titan/colossus hanging out at his shrine - if there's no one there, maybe the beasty already got killed somehow? Unusual, but it can happen during world gen (titans in particular are pretty random, some of them can turn out very weak).

You'll need iron bladed weapons or better (at least I think Iron performs better than bronze?)

Aim for the legs first off, then the arms, then go for the head to kill it and get a statue of yourself!

Nope, iron and bronze are both about the same (there might be some small differences but it's hard to tell), and they will both bounce off armor of the other type.  You need something harder than bronze to kill a colossus, which in a vanilla game means steel.  Easiest way to get a steel weapon is to find a dwarf with a weapon you like, recruit them, and get them killed by the colossus or other nasty and . . . I just realized that since dwarf sites don't exist at the moment we may have a problem here.

Well, there's always the hard way.  You're going on a quest.  Go down as deep into the caverns as you can, until you find one of the temples with legendary weapons.  These are more than strong enough to kill bronze colossi, but it'll take a good bit of lumberjack work even so.  Just don't stick around after you take the weapon, and remember to have Fun.

Easy to (sort of) fix. Find entity_default in the raws and scroll down until you see this:
Code: [Select]
[DEFAULT_SITE_TYPE:CAVE_DETAILED]
[LIKES_SITE:CAVE_DETAILED]
[TOLERATES_SITE:CITY]
[TOLERATES_SITE:TREE_CITY]
[TOLERATES_SITE:CAVE_DETAILED]
[START_BIOME:MOUNTAIN]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_FOREST:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:MOUNTAIN:3]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_GRASSLAND:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_SAVANNA:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_SHRUBLAND:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_RIVER:1]

Replace it with this:
Code: [Select]
[DEFAULT_SITE_TYPE:CITY]
[LIKES_SITE:CITY]
DEFAULT_SITE_TYPE:CAVE_DETAILED
LIKES_SITE:CAVE_DETAILED
[TOLERATES_SITE:CITY]
[TOLERATES_SITE:TREE_CITY]
[TOLERATES_SITE:CAVE_DETAILED]
START_BIOME:MOUNTAIN
[START_BIOME:ANY_LAND]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_FOREST:1]
BIOME_SUPPORT:MOUNTAIN:3
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_GRASSLAND:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_SAVANNA:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_SHRUBLAND:1]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_RIVER:1]
[BUILDS_OUTDOOR_FORTIFICATIONS]

Your dwarves will build towns (including shops) and forts like humans. They shouldn't build on mountains anymore, though; I think this could make towns too hard to navigate. You might want to tweak the biomes they appear in to your preference too, but this ought to work fine.

edit:    TOLERATES_SITE:CITY which was in the second block of code should be [TOLERATES_SITE:CITY]. Fixed now.

I pasted that from my raws and thought [TOLERATES_SITE:CITY] was redundant with [LIKES_SITE:CITY], so I changed it before posting, but it might not be.

here is what you do:
1 get the bc to chase you
2 run (not quick travel) to a fortress with the bc chasing you
3 enter the fortress
4 have the guards weaken the bc until all bodyparts are red
5 pick up the dead guards' loot
6 sleep until night time
7 attack the bc in its sleep
8 train up all fighting skills to legendary by doing step 7 (dont aim, just hold the arrow down)
9 run and sleep at dawn
10 repeat steps 6-9 until you get a lucky hit
11 ? ? ?
12 PROFIT!

that or you could kill some dwarfs for their steel weapons

Bronze colossi don't sleep. They don't eat, they don't drink, they can't feel pain, they can't be stunned, they have nothing to lose. They're bronze batman.

Get a pick. I usually have a pick or two on my adventurers at all times for monsters that are made of metals or stones that normal weapons don't work on. They will usually chop(mine?) body parts off of monsters that have the sever_on_breaks tag.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.
