The Challenge was seen through. Webadict valiantly defended his title, and is uncontested victor.It was fiercely fought, but there can be only one King of the Mafia. At the end of the bloody match, webadict, reigning King, stood in command of the field of battle.
God Save the King!The challengers met for the second game today, with the stoic Toaster as witness and arbiter. Book needed a victory if he would have hopes of continuing, and made an excellent start (if I say so myself), sacrificing a bishop to build an
impressive Queen-side attack, bringing all his pieces to bear in what at times seemed an irresistible onslaught, but webadict defended methodically, solidly, without giving an inch.
As the situation started to resolve, Book stood with a center passed pawn against an uncastled King, and a couple of potentially winning combinations, but webadict continued to defend and threatened to infiltrate Book's sparsely defended home row. Book was forced to abandon his attack and exchange a rook for the safety of castling.
By this time, webadict had a respectable, but not yet decisive, material advantage. Unfortunately, Book's attack was now in shambles, and his clock was rapidly dwindling. He still made an effort to attack on the King-side, and prevented webadict's attempt at infiltration or capturing his promising passed pawn. But Book had gambled his clock away on the mid-game attack, and was now down to mere seconds without a clear defence.
With less than fifteen seconds on his clock, Book started to flail his pieces about without having a chance to think, and placed his Queen on
exactly the wrong place, losing all possibility of resisting for the last ten or so seconds before he'd have lost anyway due to time. It was over.

The second game is copied below. This was actually really good; up until the last ten or so moves (where my clock was more dead than alive) both players found excellent moves and produced them with precision and forethought. I recommend it.
