Ragdolls and/or arrows
« on: February 06, 2011, 02:54:52 am »

Well, I've always had a thing for games that have ragdolls and for games that have arrows. Some games have both, and I go absolutely nuts for them. Sadly, I don't know very many, but two examples are that Total Jerkface game with the harpoons and (I guess) Elder Scrolls 4 with the killing blow with arrows. I always loved shooting someone in the face with that last arrow and then examining the corpse to see that my arrow has perfectly pierced their frontal lobe. It greatly pleases me.

Well, these games seem relatively rare, so I'm bringing the search here. The search bar yielded no results, so I'm assuming there's no similar thread. I'd appreciate a few suggestions. Thanks!

Mount and Blade (and M&B Warband) has ragdolls and arrows.

In Half-Life 2, shooting somebody with the rebar crossbow will generally pin them against the wall.

Mount and Blade does not have the"pinned against a wall" effect. In fact, I think nearly every death starts animated and then goes into ragdolls, so even then many deaths look similar until the animation has ended.

Team Fortress 2 technically has both, even with the pinned to the wall effect.

And yes, Half Life 2 and Mount & Blade

I love sieges in Warband because I get to watch all the defenders fall off the walls. (Or if I'm the defender I get to watch the attackers fall off the ladder)

Stand at the top and kick! Kick them in the face! Laugh mockingly as they fall!

Or just headshot farm with arrows as they come up.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

Was about to say this. It was so neat being able to pin enemies to walls with these. Too bad corpses disappeared to make way for the mundane soul gathering.

I also think the new AvP had a predator harpoon gun that left projectiles in the corpses and possibly pinned people to walls.

Pirates, Vikings and Knights 2 has pretty much every ranged weapon be capable of pinning someone to a wall / knocking them back on death.

Crossbow kills are the absolute most hilarious thing to watch as the character goes flying back like getting shot by a Hollywood gun.

A simple flash game that has arrows and ragdolls, to a certain extent.

I do believe that was a weapon in the first AvP games too.

The Turok games have rather satisfying bow/arrow mechanics (exploding arrows. Oh yes.), though the first two are bloody old, so you'll not get ragdoll, and as far as reviews are concerned, Turok 2008 deserves to be forgotten (I've not played it myself, I'd give it a try if I found it bargain basement somewhere).

A bit far from your main request, but FEAR has a gun called the Penetrator that shoots metal rods at things. While you won't be able to see what kind of facial you just gave that super-soldier (helmets), you'll still get to see a bunch of metal rods sticking out of some guy's visor and pin them to things.

But yes, ragdolls.
I endorse this comment in every way. That gun was awesome. I found all the weapons in the game a little heavy and odd at first but after a little while I got to enjoy the way they worked.

You could pin heads to walls, but not the whole person.

god that version sucked, you can literally run through that whole game with just your knife considering its a instakill.

Dark Messiah had some awesome ragdoll physics.
