hm, so i was surveying a planet somewhere for someone, on my way home i thought: hey why not hop into this random system, see if something interesting is here.
sure enough, found a huge elite battlecarrier legion XIV. well. my total fleets personal wold not have been enough for the required sceleton crew, so i mothballed it.
next sun i recieve a distress call, and think whatever. never done this event so i was curious. i  sold a small amount of fuel for a small ammount of money and noticed another derilct ship, wich turned out to be another legion XIV.
now, bot of them have erratic fuel injectos and guzzle on fluel, one also has glitched sensors.
i decided to fly to the next inhabited system and see if i could make it with my suddenly sky rocketed fuel consumption. i indeed made it with about 1-2 days of fuel left.

so. what now? i have no idea if these ships are worth it. they look impressive, but i just have no experience to say if they are any good. i also have the problem that i could afford a lot more fuel then the colonies seem to stock. so i have no idea if it was even possible to support them if money was no issue.

should i sell them? i dont think there is an option to put a ship in storage? should i restore them for ruel efficiency? i could afford to fix the one that is less  broken.

edit: nvm i CAN store them.

as hyped as i am to play the new version, its gotten like 3 updates in the last couple days so i keep checking the website. ill try playing but i dont think ill mod it until it stabilizes

i start to hate SO MUCH that the controls in travle mode are not hte controls in combat. i try to use wasd all the time and open inconvinient windows. sure, point and click is more accessible, but i think thats a lost cause anyhow. id very much prefer it to be consistent. also, the controls outside combat often are rather erratic. dont like that much.

I suppose Mount & Blade manages to get away with it since they're much different perspectives...

I'm afraid I can't offer any advice besides 'you'll get used to it in time'.

I don't know if Legion XIV is worth actually using, but I always collect and restore them at my colony. My interest in the game usually wanes by the time I could operate a battleship-fleet, maybe the new content changes that. I tend to always pick up pristine civilian Kite too when I find one and store it at my main colony once I have one. Imagine it is like a vintage jaguar the great leader takes on a spin on spare time. :D Would be great if there'd be a collector type of contact who'd pay a lot for finding rare ships for them. Right now the collector's edition Kite sells for 10k or so which isn't that great (though more than most frigates sell for).

Personally, I don't have the patience to fly slow capital ships like Legion, Dominator and Onslaught. Even with burn drive, it takes forever to get into combat. Plus with my piloting style, I tend to get overextended so I need the mobility to back off quickly (yay for Aurora and Fury with their plasma jets). I really like Apogee as well; with boosted shields and long-range beams it works great as a tank to distract enemy fire while other ships do the actual killing.

I must interject. The dominator is not a capital ship. It is a cruiser that is just as awesome as a capital for a fraction of the price. God I love the dominator.

There's a pretty simple mod that adds a x2 speed button to combat which helps for some of the slow periods like you mention.

And while I personally generally stick to cruisers and below, the endgame bits added to the new content just about require Paragon(s) at the moment. (I'd argue they're a little too crazy at the moment, honestly.)

playing whack-a-mole with ai fleets annoys the hell out of me. is there any reason they can turn on a dime while my fleet seems to have the inertia of a pulsar? super unfun.

another thing that makes me curse like a sailor all the time is the fact that ai owned ships seem to be able to backward faster then my ships even if my ships are the faster hulls. i get it, maybe they invested some into speed upgrades while i have not. but whenever i look at the ship modells, the engines are clearly in the back of the ship.
its so frustrating to get kited around all the time. i usually try to kill a ship, but it just ignroes its facing and zooms away from me while the other ships of their fleet pick me off.
i switch target to something brning in to me, but guess what, it just reverse thrusts and the situation is the same just with a different target. *maybe* it would be diffrerent if i could order different ships to attack different targes. but as i only can give so few orders, i can not do anything but order all my ships to attack the same target least i will run out of orders and cant do anything.
i mean. not that it matters. most of my ships will igore the oders anyhow. and chase the closest target regardless what target i give them on the map.

this game is SO frustrating at times. i dont know. i understand that complex games often are frutstating at first, but this one get an extra price. i find myself rage quit every 30 minutes. but as i am bored as fuck right now i torture myself by restarting it a short time after.

have not yet made up my mind but i begin to suspect that i just do not like this game.

You know, there’s an Unofficial Discord Server that has a section meant for new players. You could ask your questions there and get a much more immediate answer.

yeah whatever. i decided to remove user files on uninstall, delete the installer and empty my recycling bin. done with this game.

Okay... probably not the game for you then.

Man I just finished some of the new content from the academy and I have to say it is pretty wild, that ship gave me some trouble until I refitted my fleet to better handle it, even then it was rough. I have the big Z prize now. No spoilers but I love the new weapon system it has.

Just dropping in to issue the following PSA:
 If you don't quite like how the base game plays, there is a mod called Ship/Weapon Pack that adds a scenario, the starsector arcade. It's a totally different experience.
 SWP is not updated yet, but you can go back a version to play it, also look into other faction mods as they add to the experience.
