That is absolutely hilarious.  Wow.

That is pure awesome sauce.

In other news, the UN Security Council voted unanimously to impose sanctions on the Qaddafi regime, freeze his financial assets and to refer the matter of government attacks on civilian protesters to the International Criminal Court in the Hague.

That's actually a surprisingly bold stance for the UNSC. One, I'm honestly surprised that even Russia and China had no reservations about setting a precedent for not using military force against one's people (something they've both been guilty of in the past). Second, three of the non-permanent members right now are India, Lebanon and Nigeria -- countries who are no strangers to internal civil unrest. Three, it's something of a watershed moment for the U.S. to support anything to do with the ICC.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely hate how things are. I hate the system, I hate the corruption, and the inefficiency. I hate cops detached from the people they're supposed to be protecting, enforcing insane laws that should never have come into being. I hate corporate meddling and pointless security theater. But you know what I hate more than all that? Wannabe vigilantes and revolutionaries, people who think they know better than those who've made a career of managing the goddamn clusterfuck that is politics of every level, and the horrendous logistical problems that often go along with it, all because those people are occasionally corrupt. People torching random cars and businesses because of problems predominantly caused by people completely unrelated to the victims. People violently attacking those same cops who are already too distant and aggressive. All of these things only exacerbate the problems that fuel them in the first place. If the system is to be changed it must be changed by its own rules.

Now I don't care one wit about local problems on the other side of the world, but I cannot look favorably upon rioters, even when I also cannot look favorably upon the incumbents they're railing against. It's one of those "just about everyone involved is in the wrong" kind of situations. I also can't stand the sentiment that anything good comes of burning a state to the ground.
I don't know how a system can be "changed by its own rules" when "it's own rules" are "violent and oppressive dictatorship that will never listen to any input from its populace".

I'm of the mindset that by the time everyone agrees on how to intervene in Libya it will already be over.  What does Khadaffi control now?  Just Tripoli?

Surt and a few cities in the interior, according to Wikipedia, are under his control, while Tripoli and a few others are contentious, and the majority are the Benghazi Interim government's control.

I think when Tripoli falls the rest of the pro-Khadaffi forces will disperse.

I'm against intervention in this case because for all we know, half the world could end up rebelling against their governments before it's all over.

Sweden is sending a plane to help. Go Sweden! But don't ask why we couldn't send two! Please!

edit: Oh, and we're not helping neither Ghadaffi or the revolutionaries either, it's just supposed to help getting un-Libian people out of the country. Supposedly Neutral Countries go yay!

Sweden has been downgraded from Neutral Good to True Neutral.

As far as I'm hearing, most of the Libyan people don't want intervention at this point, either. Their attitude appears to be, "F**k all y'all bitches. We made it this far without your help, when we could have used it. Now when we got him on the ropes, you wanna come in at the end and take credit and use that as an excuse to tell us what to do after the smoke clears? F**k that. Stay home, we got this."

Unarmed protesters in Tripoli might differ, but the comments from the Benghazi provisional government honestly seem to be that they do not want or need outside intervention at this time.

I'm not 100% certain, but from what I've read it seems most of the known Swedish citizens in Libya has already been evacuated. The plane is for people from other countries as well, or even mostly. It's going to be part of the "combined help effort" (My English fails me again) gathering at Malta.

Yeah, no one in power, anywhere, cares enough to waste the massive amounts of resources deploying troops would cost, not to mention risking the lives of their own people and equipment, even if they were able to scramble enough of them to do anything within a week (I'm sure there are some situations where they could scramble them fast enough, but those fall into the cases where military analysts have sat down and come up with as many possible emergency situations as seem feasible, along with plans of action to deal with them, and I'm also sure that "two bit dictator attacking his own people, with absolutely nothing to do with any of our assets or interests involved" is not one of them). Military action takes careful planning and logistical juggling. The situation in Libya has been going on for just over a week, and after the first couple of days it was obvious the revolutionaries would prevail. That's not enough time for anyone to intervene, even if they felt it was worth it.
