Proxima is a single M-class main sequence (or, if you prefer, dwarf) star, which is highly variable in its output. It is not part of Alpha Centauri. I still say Asimov for star A and Clarke for star B

What the hell are you smoking? Proxima Cen is low-mass, low metallicity, and any planets orbiting it would be periodically bathed in X-rays. And the system I described in the game thread isn't Alpha Centauri. The components stars (of the ficitional system) have an average separation of ~250 AU, as opposed to ~76 (IRC) for Alpha Centauri's components stars. And any habitable planet that did happen to be around proxima would have to orbit so close that it would be tidally locked like Luna is to the Earth.
