Then ask RX-411 what he is reading. Then get bored of that and ask RX-411 if we can use the materializer to get a glass of water. While he's not looking, mess with the materializer so it won't work. Then tell RX-411 that the materializer won't work, and that we're really really thirsty, and won't stop complaining until he goes out into another room with a materializer to get you a cup of water. Preferably a very far away room. Then use various things in the room to make a mind-transfer hat-gun, that will transfer the wearer's brain into whatever he shoots. Then make sure the hat is turned on, wear it, point the gun at the computer, and fire. We will become one with the ship, or cause many shenanigans in our attempt.

And surely no alert will go off when we attempt to tamper with the materializer. Well, it won't if we are sneaky.
