Most things are only scary when you don't have time to rationalize them. Knee-jerk reactions to a centipede on your hand compared to one on a piece of paper about two feet away. One you mad scramble to GETTHEFUCKOFFMEOHMYGODITSGOINGTOEATMEALIVE the other one you kinda stare at it for two seconds then get closer to stare at it some more.

Well yeah. Because it's not crawling on your skin. I think it's some kind of primal instinct, because rationally I know of course that butterflies and moths and other creepy crawlies can't possibly hurt me in any way (we don't have venomous shit crawling around in these parts, luckily). But there's a part of my brain that just goes absolutely ape when one of them gets near me.

Centipedes are one of my 3 phobias. Any 'pede near me would be dead faster than you can say "squish."

As for the Elements of Harmony, Celestia says that the reason Discord could escape was that the enchantment turning him to stone hadn't been renewed by the new bearers of the Elements of Harmony, and that it hadn't happened before because the bearers (Luna and Celestia) were immortal and thus didn't have to do it anyway.

I thought up the plot for an episode where it was revealed that the Elements could make their bearers immortal, but the bearer could choose to live out a normal life. The reason the Elements were passed on is because everyone before the current 6 had chosen to live their lives normally. In the episode, the main 6 would have to make that choice, just like those who came before. I think it would be a little dark for FiM, though, and it's probably not all that good of an idea anyway. Still, it would be an interesting argument. Plus, they could make it into a two-parter but make two possible endings, and then in the in-between they could watch fan reaction and play one based on the debate.

I was sort of figuring they would decide together as a group of close friends, but it does make sense that they might not agree on it.

I don't know, I figure to accept an immortal life, you'd need someone to spend that immortality with, like Celesta has Luna. I think they'd either all accept or none of them would. I'm sure there'd be a heated argument back and forth about the decision, though.

We don't really know if MLP dragons are immortal or just extremely long-lived. Assuming Rarity would want that anyway.   The point about Twi and Celesta is well  made, though.
