That post was more idle speculation on what each ponies cutie mark would be, you can do who ever you want to out of the cast, although a group shot would be awesome now you mention it.

You should watch the whole show, it's not that long but it's really good.

Anyhow this got me thinking about what each ponies cutie mark would be:
Mal: This one's tricky a gun seems like a cheap way out although it would work.
Zoe: Once again a gun would work but also seems like a cheap way out.
Jayne: Bit easier to avoid the cheap gun here, you could give him something death related like a skull since he's more of a mercenary/thug than a soldier.
Wash: Easy, a pair of wings or similar flight symbolism.
Kaylee: Cogs or a spanner, something mechanical definitely.
Simon: Something doctory A cross or that twisty snake thing.
River: How do you encompass a natural ability at everything into a single symbol?
Inara: Another hard one possibly interconnected male female symbols?
Book: Seems like the problem here is giving him a mark which isn't an immediate spoiler. Something religious with the implication it's make-up hiding the real one?

My opinions on thus-

Mal: Captain's bars. He's captain of Serenity. I think he was a sergeant or something in the war, so sergeant stripes would work too, I suppose. Also Earth Pony.
Zoe: I think she was a corporal, so the appropriate insignia, which escapes me atm. Earth Pony.
Jayne: I don't think a gun would be inappropriate here at all, especially if said gun was Vera. Earth Pony.
Wash: Agreed. Wings would be excellent, or possibly a steering wheel. Pegasus, obviously.
Kaylee: Again, agreed. Earth Pony, maybe Unicorn, possibly.
Simon: Agreed once more. Unicorn here.
River: Perhaps a brain? Or an infinity symbol? I 'unno. Unicorn, definitely.
Inara: Agreed here as well. Once again, Unicorn.
Book: No real idea for the Cutie-Mark from me. Earth Pony again, methinks.

Mal: Captain, sergeant, those are just ranks. What's Mal at heart? I'd say he's a rebel, he challenges authority and he's as stubborn as an ass, he never ever gives up. So I'd say some kind of symbol related to that. No idea what that might be, though.
Zoe: Again, think defining character trait. I'd say her loyalty to her commanding officer, military insignia would work nicely for her.
Jayne: Definitely a gun. Maybe crossed with a knife as well, he has a nice collection of both.
River: Brain would work, especially if you could somehow make it look dangerous. Like a visual pun that says "I can kill you with my brain".
Book: Maybe a black sheep? That would refer both to his Shepherd status and being somewhat different from the rest of the flock. You could combine it with a cross if you wanted to be blatant about it.

Mal's a brown coat. Maybe some other graphics added but definitely a brown coat.
Kaylee feels like an orange and brown pegasus for some reason. I think it's her technical ability and the way the engine room looks.
Wash is a leaf on the wind.

So I finally got time to set up photoshop on my laptotp and got some free time to draw, so I made a self-ponification!

Yes, I put wings on my own pony, a guy can dream, right?   Bonus points for recognising the cutie mark.

Maybe I should change the coloutr of the hair... It felt right putting (roughly) my own hair clour on there, but it doesn't really fit with the rest of the colours. What do you think?

I did it myself. It took a while, though, mostly because I spent a lot of time getting the contours smooth and not bumpy from when I drew them wrong.

As for the cutie mark, I was inspired by the Orion pony from the show and also because I study astrophysics. Furthermore I always drew dragons before I started drawing ponies, and I really like the way them in general.

Edit: I just looked at the picture on my desktop computer and the colour of the body is completely different from what it looked like on my laptop. I thought it was grey, but on this monitor it looks pinkish-purple, which looks really strange.

That's definitely light purple for me.
Though, I think it looks quite good like that.
