I usually call it "brain", but whatever. You can even call it a "lollipop", it's your mod :).

There's some stuff in the Illithid mod that might come in handy, too.  The Emissary of the Quiet Lands is based heavily on Cthulhu and the star spawn.  All the reactions are based either directly off the Mythos or off WotC's Elder Evils, which are themselves based off the mythos.

no such thing as "cthulhu mythos",

The Cthulhu mythos is the usual name for all the stuff inspired by HP Lovecraft's stories.  As Max noted, Lovecraft allowed other writers to use the names/etc introduced in his stories.

Unless you meant that in the sense of discontinuity ;)

I just don't like that this is centered around Cthulhu only in its name, Cthulhu was a single character (and community blew it to a proportion of "myths"), it's like calling a Tolkien world "myths of gollum".

Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.

I made an organ called "sanity" inside the brain, im not sure if you can put an organ inside another organ though, i still need to test it.

If you penetrate a brain enough to damage something inside of it, you kill a subject, so it's not really needed.

Also internal organs inside of internal organs... It could work, but I didn't test it.

I've had plans for this, as I've still got my Mythos mod for 40D. Causing insanity on sight isn't necessarily required, but the ability to have creatures as the product of reactions (and extracts) is the thing that holds me back from doing it for the new version.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.

I'm up for that! The Gollum mythos it is! Well, can we call it the Smeagle Mythos? We should try to address people be there real names in formal things like mythos naming. Yes, I know Cthulhu was just the closest a human could come to saying he's name, but dam it! It was the cloest we could come to saying he's name!

I dont know of any way I can make sunken citadels however I do think I can make a basic sanity system, there will be an organ simply called "sanity" and monsters have a syndrome that can do bad stuff to it, its more deppresion than insanity ((you die if you lose all sanity)) but its better than nothing.
Hmmmm... +prepared human sanity stew+ anyone?

Edit: Haahaha now I have to go and add that with an organ for dignity and self esteem.

Mod in some hateable vermin called Joy, Babies and Karaoke. That way your dwarves can all "absolutely detest joy/babies/karaoke"

Lovecraft referred to it as "Yog-Sothothery", but the whole thing is difficult to pin down, since he shared it with other writers, some of which added good stuff, some of which added bad.

From what I've seen, both "Cthulhu Mythos" and "Lovecraft(ian) Mythos" are equally recognizable...

But it seems the folks who refer to it as "Lovecraftian" usually get their start in the books.  While the folks who call it "Cthulhu" usually get their start in games and movies.

I've known several people who played "Call of Cthulhu" and saw various movies featuring The Necronomicon...  But never knew who H.P Lovecraft was.

Which is really what gave the mythos legs.

There've been plenty of authors over the years who turned out plenty of interesting settings and monsters and stories...  But those settings/monsters/stories are largely contained to that one author's work.  Lovecraft actively encouraged the sharing of ideas between his author friends.  He gave them ideas, they gave him ideas, and you wound up with this extensive mythology that spread through all sorts of weird fiction.

The roots go so deep that it's almost difficult to find modern supernatural horror that isn't touched in some way by Lovecraft's mythos.

Anyway, this sounds like an awesome mod.  I wouldn't be at all surprised to see one of my dwarves dig a little too deeply and break through into some ancient ruin full of shoggoths.  Maybe replace HFS with eldritch horrors of various types?  Seems like a perfect fit to me...

Polyps, dholes, nightgaunts? Plenty of choices, I guess. The main advantage of doing this in 2010 (11?) as opposed to 40d is that you can have the underground represent the dreamlands. Hmm...weren't there basically about three levels to the dreamlands? Apart from the moon, anyways...
