Chunky you say?

Tried minecraft on a 16gig drive and an 8gig drive.

Horrible, absolutely horrible lag where the screen froze.

I occasionally got plenty-good fps while standing still, but it never lasted long.

So uh, minecraft, saving to a flashdrive directly?

Not good.

Uploading a zip file to and from a flash drive seems to work well enough, though.

*contemplates that automated bash/zip/ect/whatever

unzip to /dev/shm: runs everything from RAM, should be blazing fast then ;) (assuming you've got enough to spare)

Minecraft will eat ram untill there is no more ram left.
and then it will crash.

but mostly I don't know of any windows-equivalent.

I was thinking cross-platform.

That might very well be pure Java.

hmm... interesting idea, iirc the standard java library has classes for accessing zip files (java.io.zip?)... i don't know off-hand of a good platform-independent way to get a temporary directory though...
